Geena Davis, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in “Thelma & Louise” and “A League of Their Own,” embraced motherhood later in life. The actress welcomed her first daughter, Alizeh Davis-Jarrahy, with ex-husband Reza Jarrahy in 2002 before welcoming her twin sons, Kaiis Steven and Kian William Davis-Jarrahy, in May 2004 at the age of 48. Reflecting on her journey to motherhood and the challenges and joys of raising the twins alongside their older sister, Alizeh, Davis said:

“I always felt lucky that I had my kids late because I just feel like I changed so much. I always knew I wanted kids, but what I was doing waiting that long, I don’t know. I never tried before, in other words. But it’s been great. And twins are fun!”

While the actress has a celebrated career in Hollywood, she has said that her children did not envision following in her footsteps when they were younger. That has somewhat changed with age, as the actress explained:

“They’re all over 18 now, and I was like, ‘None of them want to be actors? I did it!’ " she joked. “Except, now two of them want to act. I’m like, ‘Ah!’ But that’s okay. I would have had a hard time if they wanted to be child actors.”

Alizeh, Kaiis and Kian maintained a relatively low profile as adolescents, occasionally accompanying their mother to industry events. They have also been seen celebrating milestones on their father’s social media account. Notably, in 2022, Kian attended the Emmy Awards with Davis, posing together on the red carpet and offering fans a rare glimpse into their close-knit relationship.

Davis and Reza married in 2001 and divorced in 2017. Following the divorce, the children’s last names were changed from Jarrahy to Davis-Jarrahy. Davis prides herself on her children being socially conscious and has revealed that she relies on them for help with technology.

“I learn so much from them…Tragically, I’m technology dependent on my kids,” she shared. “They’re generous with their time and really interested in social issues.”

Davis, who celebrates her milestone 70th birthday in 2025, is also passionate about equality in the media and founded the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2004, aiming to improve gender balance and reduce stereotypes in entertainment – a mission that has undoubtedly shaped her children's perspectives. The actress revealed:

“From when they were little, I’ve always watched movies and TV with them and I would often lean over to say, ‘There’s only boys in that scene. Why do you think that is?’... I was bothered by the idea that we were showing kids a very imbalanced world from the beginning… I saw that there were so far fewer female characters than male characters.”

Ultimately, her daughter inspired her to create change and fight for equality in the media by starting the foundation.

“The impetus was my daughter. I was very aware of the lack of great female characters in film because I was living it,” Davis said.

Elaborating on the goal of the initiative, the “Beetlejuice” star explained:

“The goal is to have the fictitious worlds that are created reflect the real world, which is half female and incredibly diverse.”
