Gary Sinise, best known for his role in the blockbuster movie Forest Gump, has treated over 1,700 children of fallen US soldiers to a trip to Disney Land.

The actor established the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2011 which aims to "do all [they] can to extend [their] hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security."

In December, 1,750 people took a plane with Sinise to Disney World. Among the passengers were more than 1,000 kids who had lost one of their military parents. They came on the trip with a surviving family member.

“Each one of these children who are going on these airplanes have lost a parent in military services – either combat related or illness or unfortunately suicide sometimes. We wanna take care of these kids and make sure they know we don’t forget,” Sinise told KCAL9.

Sinise arranged for a total of 15 airplanes to bring everyone to Orlando, Florida. From there, the children and their family members would enjoy a five-day vacation at Disney World.

The children and family members were all given “We Remember” pins to wear when they got to the park. They were also asked to attend an event that would honor the soldiers that they lost. This year, 600 flags lined the park to symbolize the event.

The main goal of the program was to bring together families who have all suffered similar losses. Based on the numerous reports given after the event, the program was a huge success. We are so glad that Sinise took the time to give back to those who have suffered a terrible loss

The Gary Sinise Foundation helps the families of military men and women who are either currently serving or who are veterans. He was inspired to start the foundation after he met U.S. Army Specialist Brendan Morocco during a fundraiser.

The program offers wounded veterans smart homes and other types of mobility tech that can make their lives easier. However, another program that families can utilize is known as the Snowball Express. This particular program is host to a number of community-driven events all year that are made specifically for Gold Star families. Their efforts are doubled during the holiday season when many families are feeling their losses the most.
