Gary Sinise Awarded Prestigious Patriot Award For Supporting Thousands Of Veterans Through Foundation

Hollywood actor Gary Sinise has been awarded the Patriot Award for his foundation’s work in supporting veterans.

The 64-year-old was presented with the award by the the Congressional Medal of Honor Society this week.

Gary Sinise, famed for his role as Lt. Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump, has been awarded the highest honor given out by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. 

According to ABC 7, the actor was recognized for his work in supporting veterans following their return home from combat.

According to its website, the Gary Sinise Foundation was founded in 2009 by Gary Sinise. 

Inspired by his character in Forrest Gump as well as veterans he personally met, the actor created the foundation in order to help returning veterans.

“At the Gary Sinise Foundation, we serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need,” the website reads.

“We do this by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities.”

Since its founding, the foundation has helped thousands of veterans get back on their feet upon their return from combat. 

The foundation has had many successes such as the ‘Specially Adapted Smart Homes’, a program that builds smart homes for severely injured veterans and their families.
