Garth Brooks & Chris LeDoux Team Up For "Whatcha Gonna Do With A Cowboy" Performance

Born in different decades with the same love for country music, singers Chris Ledoux and Garth Brooks have been known to produce some of the most successful country hits.

Coming together after experiencing country music success, these two artists released one of the greatest collaborations ever in 1992. After the release of "Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy" both LeDoux and Brooks went on to find fame in the country music world.

Yet, this doesn't mean fans will ever forget just where these two legends started.

Before the Fame

Before entering into the Country music profession, Ledoux supported himself and his family through a colorful career as a professional rodeo cowboy. With a desire to tell about his experiences through music, Ledoux soon began telling of his endeavors through music. Adding melody and a tune to his life stories, this cowboy rose to fame after a landing a 1976 win in the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. Graced with the ability to sing and perform, Ledoux found his opportunity to share his music with the world.

A Quick Rise to Fame

By the year of 1992, Chris Ledoux had released 22 albums and found his way into a collaboration with fellow singer and long-time fan, Garth Brooks. Recording and later releasing the popular song 'Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy," Ledoux and Brooks soon found themselves quite popular among fans for this rendition of Chris' first single on his original album.

An Unforgettable Collaboration

Involving two great country singers, the song was destined to be a hit and eventually topped charts. Quickly rising on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, Ledoux and Brooks found themselves sitting comfortably at number 7 with their song. Hitting the fifth spot on the Canadian Country Tracks chart was a real game-changer for this song.

A Tragic Loss

With a life that was cut too short, Chris Ledoux tragically passed away in 2005 leaving a hole in the hearts of his family, friends and fans. At the age of 56, Ledoux has experienced more songwriting achievements than most could ever dream of. There is no doubt that Ledoux would have gone on to make more great hits, but his duet with Garth Brooks is one to be remembered.
