Garbage Truck Driver Seen Leaving Gift Behind For Toddler That Waves To Him Each Week

Being a garbage collector is one of the most difficult, often thankless jobs out there. In fact, it’s been judged to be one of the five most risky, and it’s far from easy. However, a 2-year-old boy has recently started to brighten the day of Jose Pleites, who goes by the boy's and his mother’s house in Missouri City, Texas, twice a week. He ended up so affected by that connection that he recently left a Secret Santa gift for young Aiden.

“The boy and his mom are always there to greet me with a great smile every time I pick up their trash, and it gives me joy to know they are waiting for me to drive by,” Jose said. “It is something I look forward to on my route," reports KHOU 11.

However, he did so surreptitiously, leaving it on their porch before returning to his truck. When Rachel, the boy’s mother, later opened the door, she saw the gift and was confused as it was not accompanied by a note or a card. That’s when Saul, Aiden’s father, checked doorbell camera footage of it being dropped off. They were stunned to see their favorite garbage man was the one who had left the gift, a toy garbage truck so that Aiden could now have his own truck.

Aiden is surely enjoying his new toy. He’s so passionate about trucks that he can tell the difference between the varying types and loves Tuesday and Friday mornings, which is when Jose and his garbage truck come by. Nearly every day, he rushes outside as soon as he hears the garbage truck to see it up close and wave at Jose and those operating it and picking up trash.

In fact, the young boy is such a fan of garbage trucks in particular that he dressed as a garbage collector for Halloween, looking adorable in his uniform and beanie, the latter worn since Jose often wears one. He has even continued wearing that vest and beanie nearly every day since, KHOU 11 said.

In return, Rachel’s planning to give Jose some tasty homemade cookies once he returns from his vacation in a week. She was so touched by what Jose did, saying, “Who does that? Who just buys a kid you see occasionally a gift for Christmas to brighten his day and make his Christmas a little extra special?”

What’s the most unexpected, precious gift that you’ve ever received? Have you ever done anything like what Jose did for Aiden?
