Garbage Collector Makes Barely $10 A Day But Supported Daughter Through College Until She Got Her Degree

Cristito Quimado is a 51-year-old man from the Philippines. He works as a garbage collector for a modest salary. Making only about $10 per day, he can't afford luxuries or comforts that most can, but due to his hard work and determination, he's been able to support his four children and even send his daughter to college.

Cristito needs to be up by 3 AM every day, with no days off, and start working by 4 AM when most people are still cozy in bed. For over 20 years, this is how Cristito has supported his large family.

In a documentary that talks about his struggles, Cristito says that his job is difficult, dirty, and he is always getting scratched by broken glass. But he does it to provide his children with a better life.

Through tears, he says that "education is the only thing I can leave my family."

His daughter has finished her bachelor's degree studying nutrition technology. She is proud of how hard her father has worked all these years and hopes that she can soon make enough money to help her family, as well.
