Friendly Wild Dolphin Swims By To Say Hello To Two Dogs On A Boat

A dolphin said 'good morning' to two curious dogs near the Isle of Hope Marina on Saturday morning. Magen Peigelbeck says the dolphin swam with their boat the whole morning, interacting with her two pups, Stanley and Miles.

Not far from the Isle of Hope Marina, just off the Georgia coast, two dogs accompanied their owner on a boating trip. They do this occasionally, and the dogs seem to love getting to go on the boat and experience the ocean. However, this particular trip was special, as a very friendly wild dolphin popped out of the water by the boat, seeming incredibly excited to get to meet the dogs.

WSAV reported that according to the dog's owners, the dolphin had no interest in her — he really was just there to see the dogs. It kind of reminds us of how the zookeepers must feel when we are at the zoo. However, the dogs weren't quite sure what to make of the dolphin, and they barked like mad at it throughout the sea creature's visit. When you go out on the ocean, you might encounter dolphins, but usually from afar.

Dolphins are known for being relatively friendly, however, and it's not entirely uncommon for them to approach boats and attempt to socialize with the occupants. They're smart creatures and have quite a lot of curiosity for people and other animals. This dolphin just seemed to be very interested in befriending the dogs, trying his hardest to get their attention and gain their trust.

Upon first exiting the water, the dolphin chatters at the dogs, who are immediately startled and put on high alert. According to their owner, the two dogs had been out on the boat with her several times before. They had never previously encountered a dolphin, however. In fact, there are not many reports of dolphins interacting with boaters out on the water in this area, making it an extra special moment for the three of them. This dolphin didn't just stop to say hello.

On several occasions, he dived under the water and popped back up to interact with the dogs. The two dogs, however, were nervous - and rightfully so! This was a new experience for them, encountering a large and strange-looking animal that they had clearly never seen before. If an unknown creature approached you from seemingly nowhere and tried to strike up a conversation, we imagine you would be somewhat startled too!

The entire encounter lasted several minutes — we assume it's possible the dolphin finally realized that the dogs were not going to become friends — before he swam off. Both dogs, however, continued to remain on high-alert, looking for the dolphin. It's likely that if they were to encounter this dolphin again, the dogs would react differently. Plenty of dogs have learned to trust individuals and animals through repeated exposure.

Unfortunately, according to their owner, despite having been back out on the water multiple times, they haven't seen him. Still, the owner agrees that this was an extraordinary experience, one she was never expecting. The dogs may have been scared, but the curiosity, friendliness and bravery displayed by the dolphin were not only charming but adorable.

As the owner explained, it was the kind of experience that makes you smile and makes your heart swell. Animals are curious, compassionate, and friendly - even when the creatures they're interacting with are foreign to them. As she put it, we have quite a lot we could stand to learn from animals.

We wish the dogs would have taken more kindly to the dolphin, but all the same, this was an incredible experience for everyone involved. Truthfully, we were surprised that the dolphin wanted so hard to be friends. Have you ever seen a sea creature act this way towards another animal? Let us know in the comments what you think!
