When our animals are sick or in need of medical services, we turn to the expertise of a local veterinarian for help. After years of training, these animal professionals provide advice, medical services, and surgical intervention that our family pets and livestock rely on.

Yet, what often goes overlooked is the role that veterinarians play in the health and well-being of animals outside their scope of practice. Oftentimes, these additional services are provided without payout of kindness these professionals feel from deep within.

That was the case for Dr. Carey, a veterinarian who saves horses that are at auction and would otherwise be slaughtered if not bought. In this video from 2015, she saved a horse named Nova and her colt, with the help of Vet Ranch.

When a veterinarian named Dr. Carey entered through the doors of a local horse auction she was there for one purpose only: to save animals. Arriving with a team named "Vet Ranch," these professionals were known for going to these auctions and saving horses that were being prepared for slaughter if they went unsold.

Dr. Carey's good intentions have gained her much attention and many followers, which have inadvertently helped her in her overall goal of loving animals and saving horses. In fact, with help from Dr. Carey and Vet Ranch one pregnant horse who was destined for slaughter got another chance at life.

Viewing Life in a Different Light

When Dr. Carey visits this auction, it is usually to save any horse she can. This time was different, though. Going in with the purpose to save a porter's mare named Nova, Dr. Carey was determined to bring this pregnant horse home with her. Without the help of Dr. Carey and her Vet Ranch team, this horse was set to be prepped for slaughter in Mexico.

Despite her intent to sit through the auction in hopes of rescuing Nova, it was painstakingly difficult for Dr. Carey to sit through the entire auction. As horse after the horse was brought out, this veterinarian could not help but feel saddened and disheartened at the destiny these poor horses would face.

Salvation for One Lucky Horse Named Nova

Despite her inability to bring all the auction horses home, Dr. Carey was able to save at least two from a terrible fate. Nova and her colt were purchased and taken home by Dr. Carey and her Vet Ranch team.

Once saved horses arrive at Dr. Carey's facilities, they receive a five-star treatment to get all their preventative medications administered and any illness and ailments tended to. In this case, Nova received treatment for parasites and an upper respiratory infection. She was also started on a proper diet.

Hard Work with a Fantastic Pay-Off

Shortly after the team got Nova to her new home and began fixing her up, Nova gave birth to her colt. Dr. Carey and her team named this beautiful black foal Orion and praised him for all the hardship he had to endure before he was even out of the womb. Without professionals like Dr. Carey stepping in and doing the hard work, none of these animals could be saved from auction and slaughter.

Nova and Orion were fortunate to be her target that night, but many other horses did not experience the same good outcome. What do you think of Dr. Carey's incredible love for horses? Show your friends this video of an amazing veterinarian and her team, a strong horse, and her determined colt.
