In 1988, two sets of identical twin boys were born in Colombia, South America. Both sets of twins were healthy and ready to be sent home. However, a mistake had been made before leaving the hospital. A twin from one family was switched with a twin from another family. Both sets of twins grew up believing they had a fraternal twin.
According to the BBC, Jorge and Carlos went home to live in Bogotá, Colombia, where they grew up in a nice home and were able to attend a nice school. William and Wilbur grew up in a remote, rural village in Northern Colombia. The village is very poor, and the house they grew up in had no running water or electricity.
Scientists often speculate how much of a person is affected by nature versus nurture. Twins are a good way to observe the debate, as their genetics are exactly the same. The twins in the story would make a good case study as they grew up in very different environments but have the same genetics.

William and Wilbur ended up moving to Bogotá when they became adults. Little did they know, their identical twins also lived there.
Jorge worked in a piping company. William worked in a butcher shop. The two are identical twins, but they had not known about each other at the time. Jorge's coworker went to the butcher shop and had found William working behind the counter. Naturally, the coworker thought it was Jorge behind the counter and asked what he was doing there. William, of course, had no idea who Jorge was.
Jorge's coworker showed him a photo of William, to his amazement. William looked like him. They looked at William's facebook profile to find out more about this identical stranger. This is when Jorge saw William's brother Wilbur, who looked exactly like Jorge's own brother, Carlos.
After this, the boys decided to meet each other. One friend captured the amazing moment where William and Jorge had met for the first time. When meeting, the boys are all full of smiles and laughter. They comment about how William is whiter than Jorge from the colder weather. The boys are naturally in disbelief, and keep expressing how unbelievable the whole thing is.
The four of them now live together. Whether blood-related or not, they will all always be each other's brothers and most importantly, family.
