Former Reality Star Honey Boo Boo, 16, Is In A Relationship With A 20-Year-Old University Student

Alana Thompson AKA Honey Boo Boo became an overnight sensation when she first appeared on "Toddlers & Tiaras" at just 5 years old. She skyrocketed to fame as one of the series' standout stars, eventually landing her own show. She's continued to work since then, even appearing on "Dancing With the Stars: Juniors," but she's also maintained a balance between her private and public lives.

While her early years were full of the glitz and glam of the pageant world, during Thompson's early teen years things took a turn for the worse, however, after her relationship with her mom June Edith "Mama June" Shannon deteriorated following Shannon's battle with drug addiction.

But in the last year or so, Thompson has been showing the world that she's thriving again. Now aged 16, the teen moved in with her older sister Lauryn Elfird after her relationship with her mom got rocky. Meanwhile, just last month Thompson appeared in a Teen Vogue feature that showed that she really is living her best life. 

In the accompanying interview, Thompson even revealed that she's got a boyfriend. However, it was leaked by another publication who her beau is and it turns out he's a 20-year-old college student, with some people skeptical of their age difference.

But it seems Thompson's boyfriend, whose name is Dralin Carswell, has gotten the approval of her family, with all three of her sisters following him on Facebook. One member of Thompson's family who didn't appear to be following her new boyfriend, however, was her mom. Let's take a look at Thompson's new Teen Vogue interview and photoshoot and all the details of her new college-age boyfriend.

In the Teen Vogue feature, which was released in late August, Thompson sets the record straight about what name she goes by, telling the magazine:

“My mama did not name me Honey Boo Boo. My name is Alana.”

The accompanying photoshoot sees the teenager sporting a range of fashion-forward outfits while showing off her looks with natural makeup. Described as "easygoing and calm on the set" of the shoot, Thompson explains that her focus nowadays is on being the best person she can be. She told Teen Vogue:

"I want to be the best I can be, and I want to make my money, and I also want to make straight A's, so I just try my hardest.” 

In a personal moment, Alana opened up about the fact that she does "not have many friends. At all," before remarking that her only friend is probably her boyfriend. She explained that she feels people just want to be friends with Honey Boo Boo rather than Thompson, which has caused her to have trust issues. A source spoke to The Sun and revealed:

"Dralin and Alana are attached at the hip and hang out together all the time.” 

But it sounds like Thompson's boyfriend doesn't really care about her former reality TV persona. Reportedly dating for six months, Carswell has been accepted by Alana's sisters and that's all the approval one needs. The 20-year-old changed his Facebook status in March, confirming that the two have been an item since then. And it seems that their four-year age difference doesn't bother her family.
