Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, might have called the White House home once upon a time, but the 94-year-old now follows a modest lifestyle.

In fact, the former president reportedly still lives in the same house in Georgia he built in the ‘60s and shops at the Dollar General.

According to the Washington Post, the farmhouse is located in rural Plains, Georgia, and is valued at $167,000. According to the publication, the estate is “less than the value of the armored Secret Service vehicles parked outside.”

The 94-year-old and his Wife are indeed quite nifty when it comes to their shopping habits; The two shop at the local Dollar General store and prefer to fly commercial, as per the Rolling Stone.

The former President told the Post that although he chooses to lead a humble life, he understands why other former presidents might attempt to capitalize on their time in the Oval Office.

“I don’t see anything wrong with it; I don’t blame other people for doing it,” Carter clairfied. “It just never had been my ambition to be rich.”

Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter might be in their nineties, but the couple remains quite active throughout their day. Jimmy likes to swim or write in his study in the mornings, while his wife meditates and practices tai chi. Although former presidents often have a chef, the Carters choose to cook for themselves. They even make their own yogurt and kill time by watching Law and Order and Atlanta Braves games.

When Carter served as President, he reportedly put his peanut business into a blind trust to avoid conflict of interest. By the time he left office, the business had gone into a $1,000,000 debt. They were forced to sell.

“We thought we were going to lose everything,” Rosalynn told the Washington Post.

The 94-year-old now make a living off his pension of $210,700 per annum, a pension every former President is entitled to, as well as writing books. According to ThriftBooks, he has written 46 books thus far.
