Football Players Help Elderly And Disabled Residents Shovel Driveways After Coach Comes Up With New 'Monday Workout'
Jan 28, 2022 by apost team
Winter is a beautiful time of year, but it comes with its own set of challenges. Snow and ice can make roads and driveways incredibly dangerous, and for some people, shoveling it away is just not possible. This is why communities have come together to help the elderly and disabled in their neighborhoods when snow begins to fall.
A high school football team from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, has become an inspiration to many after their coach canceled practice so they could shovel snow from driveways in their community. They focused on helping their elderly and disabled neighbors and accepted no payment in return. The good deed is a long-standing tradition at Bethel Park High School, and after a snowstorm hit the area in mid-January 2022, it was definitely needed.
The coach, Brian DeLallo, sent a message to his players that their normal practice was canceled for the day and that they should go out and shovel driveways instead. DeLallo added that they would have otherwise been working out in the weight room; but shoveling snow is great exercise as well, so they weren’t missing out on anything. If anything, the coach felt that the boys would get more from the experience than if they were just lifting weights.
Even DeLallo pitched in to help the team, and he said he would be feeling it the next day, but it was all worth it. The team has around 40 members, and they shoveled snow for hours, so that means a significant amount of people were helped that day. Read on to learn more about this awesome team and their willingness to help others.

On Twitter, Coach DeLallo posted: “Due to expected severe weather, Monday’s weightlifting workout has been canceled. Find an elderly or disabled neighbor and shovel their driveway. Don’t accept any money — that’s our Monday workout.”
In an interview with CBS Pittsburgh, the coach shared what the team usually works on during the winter season when they can’t be on the field. “We would have been in the weight room doing squats, and bench presses and power cleans,” said DeLallo.
The good deeds have been going on for years. One team member shared that his dad also shoveled driveways back when he was on the team. Sending the message to the players felt like part of a long-standing tradition. “I actually was sitting on the couch drinking a coffee getting ready for the Steeler game and sent it out and this is something that predates me,” DeLallo said.
One of the boys shoveling snow was team captain Gavin Moul. He shared that the people in his neighborhood were shocked by the offer. “They’re surprised that we’re not taking money, we’re not doing anything for it. They’re refusing us because we’re not taking money for it sometimes,” he said. “I feel great about it and think we all feel great about it. It’s not only helping them, but it’s helping us to become a better team.”
Coach DeLallo added: “You get a lot more out of this than ‘did you bench press 300 pounds today?’ This is really cool. It’s a chance to connect with the community and you don’t get many of those, so this is nice.”
