Football Player Marches Into Shelter And Requests Their 'Least Adoptable Dog’

Football player Ronnie Stanley from the Baltimore Ravens has a soft spot for underdogs, quite literally. Instead of buying from a breeder when he was hoping to get a dog companion, he went straight to the shelter. And not only that, he and his girlfriend apparently requested a dog that “has been here a long time” and is maybe “not-so-adoptable”.

Ronnie and his girlfriend were introduced to a pup named Winter, who was not physically perfect. The staff at the BARCS shelter were delighted when the two of them connected. They shared a post about what happened to Winter before she met Ronnie:

“Beautiful Winter is a dog who has spent most of her six years of life falling into sad, unfortunate situations,” BARCS posted on Facebook. “She was found on a vacant property, on a hot day with no electricity, or open windows.”

They went on to say that Winter is probably a result of over breeding as evidenced by her long, hanging belly. They treated her for dehydration and she was generally just terrified. Unfortunately, dogs like Winter are usually passed over at the shelter, however as BARCS posted, “...but not by Ronnie!”

Ronnie and his girlfriend took the little sweetheart home, and renamed her Lola for her new life of belly rubs and cuddles. The Animal Channel reports that Ronnie later went on to adopt another pup from BARCS and helped to fundraise for the shelter that gave him his original furbaby, Lola.

We agree with what BARCS said in their original Facebook post, praising Ronnie for his choices.

“We are so proud to have amazing guys like Ronnie to be role models to the kids in our city,” BARCS posted on Facebook. “Not only does his single act of kindness make adoption cool, but it makes giving love to an imperfectly perfect dog a 'manly' thing to do.”

A round of applause for Ronnie and his girlfriend for giving a sweet but neglected pup like Lola a loving home.
