Food Delivery Worker Causes Debate After Showing Handling Of Deliveries Of Non-Tippers

In the past few years, food delivery apps have become very popular. With more and more people wanting their food brought to them instead of eating out, there is a demand for more delivery drivers. However, one woman on TikTok has made it clear that if you order delivery you should always be tipping your driver.

User @jhordanthemodel made a video on TikTok discussing what happens to your food when you decide not to tip your driver. She began by explaining that drivers for the company DoorDash have the ability to see if the customer tipped before they pick up the order, so orders that belong to people who don’t tip do not get chosen. This means the food is left sitting out for a while before a driver finally agrees to take the order.

This fact was upsetting to a lot of viewers and the discussion in the comments section became a heated debate about tipping. Many users felt that tipping is optional for a reason, and the drivers are getting paid an hourly wage as well, so this behavior is inappropriate in their eyes. Others sided with the driver and agreed that tipping should be considered mandatory as it is the way drivers make most of their money.

This TikTok is not the first to be made that exposes the reality delivery drivers are facing. Another TikToker, @frenchfrythug, made a video that showed off a note he left with a customer that did not tip. Keep reading to see what the note said and what DoorDash had to say about these videos.

User @frenchfrythug on TikTok printed out a letter that essentially shamed the customer who placed the order and decided not to tip. "If you can't afford to tip then you should go pick it up yourself. Who do you think you are to order food and have someone come and bring it to your door for FREE? FOR FREE?" he said in the note.

The delivery driver told Insider that he has worked for DoorDash since December 2020 and the customer was a "habitual no tipper" and that he wanted his video to "make a statement."

The man included that the customer could, "right your wrongs below." He then added the user name to a Venmo account called @Iforgottotip, where it seems he expected the customer to send some money.

Many people left comments on TikTok either in support or direct opposition to the letter. One person wrote: "It technically wasn't free. DoorDash paid you.” Another person shared, "I never tip. I pay the service fees to DoorDash or UberEats, that's enough. If you don't make enough money then get a new job.”

DoorDash also had something to say on the matter. A spokesperson told Insider: "This behavior is clearly inappropriate and has no place on the DoorDash platform. We are looking into this incident and will take appropriate action."

The spokesperson also confirmed that drivers are able to know the guaranteed minimum amount of money they will make on an order. The man from the Tiktok said he usually doesn’t accept orders without tips but that day he was trying to teach a “lesson.”
