Discrimination in the workplace is never acceptable. The United States has had a long and dark history of socially accepted discrimination against people for immutable characteristics.

From slavery and Jim Crow laws to internment camps and religious intolerance, there are many periods where certain groups were treated differently because of their appearance or beliefs.

While times have tremendously improved, there are still forms of discrimination that happen in the workplace. One woman recently discovered that being pregnant was enough to keep her from being employed.

Lindsey Wilcox recently discovered that she is pregnant. Due to her financial situation, she needs to work part-time to help her working boyfriend pay for the expenses that will inevitably arrive with the baby. Lindsey has been searching high and low for a solid part-time gig that will keep her new family afloat.

As she told FOX13, the process hasn't been easy so far. In order to establish rapport with her employees, Lindsey is honest about her pregnancy. This ensures that any conflicts that arise for appointments or health concerns won't be penalized.

Lindsey recently sent an application to a local diner in her hometown of Lakeland, Florida. She was corresponding with an employee at the diner via Facebook Messenger. One of the managers replied to Lindsey's application.

A 9:15 appointment was requested for the morning. Lindsey responded promptly to the offer and confirmed the appointment. To maintain her honesty and courtesy, Lindsey also sent a message describing her situation.

She described how difficult it was to find an employer that would hire her because of her pregnancy. Lindsey mentioned that she would be a dedicated and hard-working employee despite her situation.

She wrote to the Diner saying:

"I just wanted to let you know I am pregnant. I have been struggling to find someone to hire me pregnant, not many places want to but I will put in the work and be there when needed! Is that ok?"

Although Lindsey had been turned down before, she was shocked to see the employer's reply. The manager from the diner simply responded by saying, "No, thank you".

Lindsey entered a state of shock when the employer canceled the interview. After hearing the news, her boyfriend decided to post screenshots of the conversation on Facebook. He was outraged by the callous response.

In an interview with FOX13, Lindsay made a statement in favor of hiring expecting mothers:

"A working parent is going to work ten times harder than a 16-year-old kid that's going to go out on a Friday night and go party"

This unfortunate incident raises an important discussion about workplace discrimination and its impact on expecting mothers. The story has been shared all over social media and is making its way through several news outlets as well.
