Officer Robert Kunze is a true hero who served his community valiantly and who lost his life as a result. In September, Kunze responded to a call about a man who had stolen a vehicle and a gun, and he also had been in an argument with his in-laws. This was the last call that Kunze would respond to.

Kunze, who was a deputy with the Sedgewick County Sheriff’s Office, located the suspect. He began patting him down to check for weapons, which is standard procedure before handcuffing an individual.

Kunze discovered a gun, and the man tried to wrestle it away from the officer before he could be handcuffed.

While Kunze was wearing a bulletproof vest, the bullet pierced his body right above the vest.

The assailant did not get away, however. Before Kunze died from the gunshot wound, he was able to shoot and kill the man.

Witnesses were nearby, and they believe that the suspect would have shot and killed them if Kunze had not been able to take him down.

Kuntze left behind a wife and child.

Law enforcement offices usually are tightknit, and officers often view each other as family. Kuntze’s fellow officers decided that they wanted to do something special for her.

Several months after her father’s tragic death, the little girl visited the law enforcement office to sell Girl Scout cookies. Because of how cold or wet the season had been, she had not had many opportunities to rack up big sales on her own.

While many other girls in her troop had two parents selling cookies at their workplaces, Kuntze's daughter did not have this working on her side.

The law enforcement office saw that this was a great opportunity to help her out.

Altogether, they purchased 660 boxes of cookies, which cost them several thousand dollars.

They hoped that their purchase would help her advance in the program.
