First All-Girl Sextuplets On Record Are Grown-Up And In Their Thirties

Born in 1983 in Liverpool, England, these six girls made headlines as the fourth ever surviving pair of sextuplets and the first set of all-girl sextuplets. Well, years later in 2018, a short documentary about the girls all grown up as women was released, and it's incredible to see!

Their parents, Janet and Graham Walton, had been trying for years to start a family. Twelve failed rounds of infertility treatments finally led to success when the pair learned they were pregnant. They were in for the surprise of their lives when they learned that Janet was actually carrying six babies, reports The Guardian.

Because of the precarious nature of carrying six babies at once, Janet had to be admitted to the hospital for the entire duration of her pregnancy. She told The Guardian, “I knew, somewhere very deep inside myself, that these babies were going to be fine. I simply didn’t consider an alternative. I decided I was going to be the best patient the hospital had ever had and do whatever it took to keep these babies safe.”
Thankfully, the pregnancy progressed well, and Janet gave birth to six healthy baby girls on November 18th, 1983 at only 31 weeks of gestation.
It was not easy during the first few years as the couple kept busy raising Hannah, Ruth, Luci, Kate, Jennie, and Sarah, reports The Guardian. The Waltons went through over 10,000 diapers and survived on very little sleep. But eventually, the babies turned into toddlers, and then little girls.
Today, the girls are all grown up and living separate but connected lives. They all live within a few minutes of each other, giving them lots of opportunities to spend time together. “I suppose it’s a bit like having a party the whole time,” says Luci, who was born second between her sisters.
The sextuplets by birth order are: Hannah, who is a primary school teacher; Luci, who works as an airline stewardess; Ruth, who works as a receptionist; Sarah, who works at a medical center; Kate, who works in HR; and Jennie, who runs a sweet shop in Leeds.
Sarah had the honor of giving birth to the Waltons' first grandchild when Jorgie was born on October 7, 2014. “We all get on really well,” Ruth says. “And we’re all loving being aunties to Jorgie.”
