Firefighters Willing To Cancel Christmas Plans And Go To Australia To Help Fight Bushfires

Some selfless firefighters in Canada have agreed to cancel their holiday plans with their families to lend aid to the raging bushfires in Australia. The country has sent out a call for aid to any other nations that could lend it. The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre answered the call and sent dozens of firefighters to the land down under to help battle these raging infernos.

A group of Canadian volunteers has been chosen to spend 38 days overseas where they will remain far from their families. Brian Pallister, premier of the Canadian province of Manitoba, stated that the volunteers are all happy to help the people of Australia avert this crisis, according to the Sidney Morning Herald.

He is quoted as saying, "We are pleased to help the people of Australia as they face these devastating fires, especially since Manitoba has been on the receiving end of help from friends and neighbors when wildfires and other natural disasters hit our province ... There's nothing more Manitoban than offering a helping hand when someone else is in need".

Volunteers were assigned roles according to their expertise and experience in the field of fire and rescue. There are also some personnel who lend support in efforts of team management and planning of the operations.

Additional cause for huge concern was discovered to be three boys who lit fires on purpose and worsened the scope of the emergency. There were two 12-year-old boys who were taken into custody for starting a fire at the Koonawarra reserve, and a third boy had started a fire behind an athletic center in Warilla.

The kids are subject to punishment according to the Young Offenders Act. Luckily, the fires that the children perpetrated were quickly put out before anyone was directly hurt by them. The police inspector made a statement about the boys' behavior as reported by The Guardian, saying how distressing it is that young people show disregard for the messages about how important fire safety is, and they don't seem to realize how much death and destruction they could cause.

"We are urging the whole community to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour,” he is quoted as saying by the newspaper.
