Firefighters Resuscitate Family's Dog After Rescuing Him from House Fire in Dramatic Video

A dog in Sacramento, California named Dicky is recovering after being pulled from a house fire. The dog was unconscious when found by firefighters.

The Sacramento Bee reported the fire started in the bedroom of the home on February 6.

The fire was put out by firefighters in ten minutes and all humans escaped the house without injury or harm. However, the three-year-old terrier mix remained inside the home. Firefighters found the dog under the bed of its owner. The dog was not breathing.

The cameras attached to the helmets of the firefighters recorded the drama that ensued after the dog was found under the bed. The team of rescuers went to work on Dicky immediately. They performed CPR on the dog.

Dicky's owner Pamela Ford told CBS Sacramento that she feared the worst for her dog when firefighters carried him from the house. She says Dicky was completely limp and his tongue was hanging from his mouth.

After a few moments of extreme tension, Dicky responded to the oxygen provided to his body. He sprang to life with a jolt of energy and began to breathe on his own. First responders breathed heavy sighs of relief before offering each other high fives to celebrate their victory.

Pamela says Dicky is doing well. She explains the dog received oxygen and medication at a local emergency room. After four or five hours at the hospital, Dicky was allowed to return home. Pamela says the dog has been eating and barking as usual while running around the home. She says she is thankful to first responders for caring enough to save the life of her best friend.

Pamela explains Dicky has been in her life since he was one month old. She says the dog is very special to her.

The Metropolitan Fire District of Sacramento said in a caption on their Facebook page that they will always be there when they are needed, for both citizens and their pets!
