Pets become a member of the family. When a pet dies, there is a grieving process that you and your household members must go through.

Processing grief can take a while, and it is different for every person.

According to WMC5, Fire Captain Paul Bryant's dog died three years ago. After a while, he and his family looked at different dogs and puppies that were available for adoption, but none of them seemed quite right.

Since the passing of their dog, they have been a household without a canine companion.

On March 30, a call came into the fire department where Fire Captain Paul Bryant works.

Some motorcyclists had reported hearing crying coming from under concrete slabs and rocks. Fire Captain Paul Bryant headed a crew that went out to take a look.

After some investigating, Fire Captain Paul Bryant and his crew found a hole where the cries were coming from. They had to be careful so that the concrete slabs and rocks would not fall into the hole.

The cries were coming from a puppy that was trapped inside a small opening. It took some gentle digging and maneuvering, but Fire Captain Paul Bryant finally got the puppy out.

Fire Captain Paul Bryant took the puppy to a veterinarian. The vet pronounced the pup to be in good health. From there, the pup went on to the local animal shelter. Nobody claimed the poor boy, despite the story being promoted on social media and the local news.

Fire Captain Paul Bryant knew that the pup had to be his. He felt that it was a sign from above that now was the time, and this was the dog. He took the puppy home and named him Rocky.

“I said, ‘Oh, no,’ this was meant to be, he’s my dog and he’s coming home with me,” Bryant said, according to WDWR
