Although parking rules vary from street to street and depend on the time of day, there are some rules that never change. For example, every driver knows not to park in front of a fire hydrant.

Parking there is a safety hazard that could cause significant damage to property and people. While this rule seems obvious, there are some people that choose to ignore it.

Some people decide to ignore the rules and take the risk of parking in front of a fire hydrant. This poor decision may be the result of an emergency, ignorance, or a feeling of superiority. Whatever the reason, it is a gamble to park there.

In some cases, bad parkers get away without consequences. However, one resident of Anaheim, California experienced the exact opposite.

Anaheim Fire and Rescue posted photos on their Twitter depicting what happens when you park in front of a fire hydrant. In the caption, the local fire department asked their followers if this defiance of the rules is worth broken windows, towing fees, and a citation.

Anaheim Fire and Rescue also requested that other residents follow the rules instead. The pictures showed a car with broken windows with a hose running through the front seats. The fire department had to break the front windows in order to reach the fire hydrant.

In response to the graphic photos, many people asked why the fire department decided to break the windows. To the untrained eye, it appears unnecessary to feed the hose through the car. Many commenters suggested running the hose around or over the parked car instead. In response to the questions about the decision to break the windows, the firefighters explained that the hose must be straight in order to properly pump water. Anaheim Fire and Rescue said that property would not be damaged unless it was absolutely necessary.

Anaheim Fire and Rescue answered these concerns in a calm and rational manner. They mentioned that the photos weren't posted in order to humiliate anyone. Instead, these photos were intended to keep others from suffering the same fate.

It's definitely worth paying for an extra parking spot or driving longer to find an open space. Don't you agree?
