Felicity Huffman's 'Desperate Housewives' Co-Star Criticizes Her 14 Day Prison Sentence As 'White Privilege”

Felicity Huffman’s former co-star on “Desperate Housewives” has spoken out against her light prison sentence for her involvement in the College Admissions scandal. Ricardo Chavira attributed ‘white privilege’ to why Huffman's sentence was not so harsh.

Huffman was charged earlier this year with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. However, her 'guilty' plea was exchanged for low jail time and no further charges being brought against her. Huffman was only sentenced to 14 days in prison, fined $30,000, and asked to complete 250 hours of community service. Huffman along with “Full House” star Lori Loughlin are just a few of the high profile names that have surfaced in the scandal.

Prosecutors claim, according to CNN, that Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli paid half a million dollars to a fake charity to have their two daughters accepted into the University of Southern California. The daughters were positioned to look like crew recruits even though both of them have never rowed.

Chavira played Carlos Solis on ABC’s hit series that ran for eight years alongside Huffman’s character.  He tweeted after Huffman’s sentencing, “White Privilege. And I saw Eight years worth of it, so I know what I’m talking about,” Chavira said.

He continued saying, “I saw Eight years worth of it working on Housewives. I’ve seen a lifetime of it being a halfbreed, and I’ve struggled with the intricacies of it on a daily basis with all the cultural bias I’ve received on both ends. But whatever. Slap on the wrist.”

The U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling who is the main prosecutor in the College Admissions Scandal, however, believes that Huffman handled her case in a “classy way.” He told WCVB Channel 5 Boston News recently that “one of the things we looked at was money involved. She [Felicity Huffman] spent about $15,000 to have her daughter get a fake SAT score. She took responsibility almost immediately. She was contrite, did not try to minimize her conduct. I think she handled it in a very classy way.”
