Father’s Gesture To Daughter’s Stepdad At Wedding Has Audience Weeping

Weddings are usually one of the most special days in someone's life. Not only is the day special because the person is starting their new life with their partner, but it's also an emotional moment for the family of the couple getting married. For mothers and fathers especially, it's a sign that their child has fully grown up and is ready to start their own family.

For children who have two sets of parents, there is double the joy and emotion shared on the big day. But since wedding tradition usually only includes one parent — for example, the father-daughter dance — this can mean some children don't get the chance to celebrate individually with all of their parents

Well, one father of the bride from Birmingham, Alabama, knew how special his daughter's big day was, not only for her but for all of her parents. So rather than follow tradition, he wanted to include her stepfather in the proceedings.

As he walked his beautiful daughter down the aisle, halfway through they passed her stepfather. But rather than keep on walking, the father put out his arm and quite literally grabbed the stepfather so he could join them in the walk down the rest of the aisle.

The moment was shared on Oct. 1 on TikTok by the bride, Kelsey Griffith, and has since gone viral, prompting many to applaud her father for his selfless gesture. Not only did he make his daughter's and the stepfather's day, but it's clear that many people were deeply moved by his kindness and consideration.

Posting to her TikTok account, Griffith accompanied the video with the caption:

"My dad surprised my step dad by including him in our walk down the aisle."

The video is incredibly sweet, so it's no surprise it's since accumulated over 5.8 million views. People wrote in the comments about just how special this situation is. One user wrote:

“Dad didn’t make it about him. He made it about his daughter. On her special day. That’s awesome!”

Another commended the father for recognizing that her stepdad is also an incredibly important part of her life:

“Your daddy is the definition of what a real man is. On that day he realized you’re not only his little girl, but your stepdad’s as well.”

Meanwhile, others praised the positive co-parenting that was on display. Someone wrote that it should "serve as a lesson to all divorced and/or additional parents." Another wrote:

“What a beautiful moment. This dad is fully confident in his relationship with his daughter and understands how important stepparents are/can be.”

The video had other people sharing memories of similar situations, but sadly not all were positive. One woman wrote about raising her stepdaughter from the age of 6 but not being invited to the wedding, which took place at her mother's house during the pandemic.  However, another person had a positive situation similar to the video that happened at their sister's wedding. They wrote:

“During my sister’s father-daughter dance, my dad stopped halfway through to include her stepdad. This was a sweet reminder of that."
