Father's Post Goes Viral, Inspires Pampers To Install Thousands Of Changing Tables In Men’s Rooms

When you are a parent, it can be a struggle to change your child’s diaper when you are out and about in a public place. For mothers, it can be hard. For fathers, the struggle is often more than they would have imagined.

There are still many places that have gendered bathrooms – a bathroom just for women and one for the men. In many places, it’s only the women’s restrooms that have a changing table for babies. This is a problem for many different reasons.

For one, a lack of changing tables in the men’s room implies that only mothers should be changing the diapers. For another, single fathers and two-father couples are simply out of luck if they need to change their baby when they are out.

Donte Palmer is the father of three children. He brought the issue to light with a recent Instagram post showing his struggles. He stated that he quite often needs to crouch down on the men’s room floor in order to change his son’s diaper, as there are usually no changing tables available in the men’s room.

Dante feels that by disregarding the need for changing tables in the men’s room, businesses are acting as though family men do not exist. He points to the fact that his son appears so comfortable because he is so used to being changed this way.

Donte was in a Texas Roadhouse having lunch with his children, 1-year-old Liam, and 12-year-old Isaiah. When Liam needed to have his diaper changed, Dante headed to the bathroom. Isaiah came along to help. The pair’s squatting skills helped a lot in the situation, as there wasn’t a changing table in the room.

Nowadays Donte doesn’t even bother to look for changing tables when he is in the men’s restroom. He told the website Scary Mommy that he has been in enough businesses that didn’t have them to know not to bother to look. He believes that for too long, fathers are thought to be absent in their children’s lives. He would like to prove that this isn’t true for every dad. For decades child-caring has been thought of as a woman’s job. But Donte believes that while many fathers do not take responsibility for their kids, there are just as many who are there to do what they should.

Shortly after he shared his photo, the Shade Room reposted the photo. To date, it has gotten 500,000 likes. It didn't take long until the diaper brand Pampers took notice of Donte's post.

As it turns out, Donte's picture inspired Pampers to start a new campaign called #bethechange! Stars like Adam Levine and John Legend are even supporting the campaign.

The picture touched many fathers and mothers all over the world. It also sparked a huge discussion about how normal this issue is, as well as how frustrating it is for families.

Many commenters applauded Donte for his actions. Some commented on the times they happened to see other fathers struggle with their baby to change him or her.

Does this outrage you, or do you think men should just deal with it and change their kids' diapers in their cars or on the floor? Let us know in the comments and pass this on to others to see what they think!
