Father Hears Son's Heartbeat After He Passed Away And His Heart Was Donated To Woman

Mar 02, 2020 by apost team

After father Jordan lost two of his sons in one year, he got the opportunity to hear one of his son's heartbeat even after he was gone. Jordan Sphan lost his son Matthew, 21, in October of 2018 and Matthew's heart was later donated. The woman who received Matthew's heart contacted Jordan a year later so he could hear his son's heartbeat.

In an interview with apost.com, Jordan's wife gives details about the special meeting.

Jordan Spahn's son, Matthew, was known as a track star at Brenham High School before he lost his life in a car crash in 2018. At the time of the accident, Matthew was registered as an organ donor, and his seven organs were donated to save the lives of five different people. Matthew's heart ended-up saving the life of Kristi Richard Russ, 54, who ended up reaching out to the Spahn family in an expression of gratitude.

According to an interview with Jordan's wife, Summer MJ Mossbarger, the couple received a letter from Kristi around "one the year mark" after Matthew's death. The three eventually scheduled a meeting so Jordan could hear his son's donated heart through the body of Kristi, who received it. Summer told apost.com:

"Jordan didn't know Matthew was a donor until the hospital told him. We have not met any of the other recipients. We had to wait a year before any of us (Kristi, me, and Jordan) could meet. "

In a video posted by Summer, Jordan hears Matthew's heartbeat as it comes through Kristi with the help of a stethoscope. During the video one can hear Jordan say, "it's so strong" and Kristi responds with "that it is." The moment was very emotional and meaningful to father Jordan, as seen in the video. His wife Summer said about the meeting:

"Yes we lost Matthew, but we have a piece of him left here in Kristi and we are blessed to have her in our lives."

While the passing of Matthew has been rough for Summer and Jordan, the family has coined the term #SpahnStrong as a representation of how they made it through such heartbreaking loss. Summer Spahn said about the struggle:

"#SpahnStrong is not what we went thru but how we get thru it, strong. Losing 2 sons in less than 4 months you have no choice but to be #SpahnStrong. We credit our strength to our faith. That everything happens for a reason in God's timing. I know not everyone believes or has faith in God but we give him all the glory."

While not everyone may be able to reconnect with their late child in the way that Jordan did with Kristi via stethoscope, Summer gave advice to other families who have lost their children too-soon:

"Our advice to others that are going thru hard times is to keep going. Life is hard, it's heavy and no matter the trial, keep going. It will be worth the fight and there's no telling what blessings will come from pain."
