Father Got Fired Because He Didn’t Make Himself Available To His Bosses During Birth Of His Son

Lamar Austin is a brand new father who was working for a private security group in Manchester, N.H., as a security guard while his wife was pregnant. Lamar was supposed to be on call at all times during his 90-day trial period for Salerno Protective Services. When that trial period was over, the security company would tell him whether or not they wanted him to continue working for them.

However, Lamar also wanted to be on call for his pregnant wife, who was due to deliver at any time during his 90-day trial. It was a dilemma that would ultimately cost him his job.

As reported by People, the hardworking husband was trying to do everything that he could to pass his 90-day trial. He picked up extra shifts and covered for others. He knew that dependability is a valued trait for businesses, and he wanted to show the company just how dependable he could be.

Unfortunately, his wife went into labor when he was supposed to be at work. While he was dedicated to his new job, he was also dedicated to his wife. He knew that he had to be there when she gave birth to their child.

Because of this, he told his boss that he would not be able to make it in for his shift over the New Year’s Eve holiday. It was not long after that he received a message saying that he was terminated.

Lamar was able to witness Cainan, his son, being born at 7:44 am on the first of January. But he was also now worried about financial obligations after just being told that he was fired. Thankfully, he has received multiple job offerings after news of his termination went viral. Someone even created a GoFundMe page for people who want to donate to the Austin family. Lamar was also offered an apprenticeship with a local business. It looks as though he has a bright future ahead of him after all.

According to People, a statement on the Salerno Protective Services company website read, “In no way did (the firing) have anything to do with his child’s birth. The timing of the termination was poor, but it was necessary for operation purposes. Salerno will be looking into revamping its termination policies to avoid such misunderstandings in the future.”

But Lamar doesn't hold any grudges. He told People that he will always pick his family no matter what. He believes that no one should ever have to choose between going to work and watching their baby being born. He is happy that he chose to stay with his wife during her time of need.
