Family Pays For Mortgage By Renting Out Their Backyard Swimming Pool

Financial issues are something that no one ever wants to deal with. Unfortunately, paying for everyday necessities and bills will most likely not just go away overnight. Unless you are lucky enough to win the lottery or come into a large sum of cash, you may need to think a bit more creatively to help fill your wallet.
For some people, getting their hands on some extra cash could mean having to get a second job. Others choose to change their habits which could potentially contribute to overflowing bills. But some people strive to have fun while raking in the big bucks.
A couple from Georgia has come up with a pretty fun solution to help them move forward with their mortgage payments. The Beach family, composed of Jim and Megan, has decided to rent out their pool. Similar to how people rent out their homes for people to spend the night in, like the service Airbnb, the Beach family is utilizing a comparable service in order to rent out their pool for others to use.
People sometimes have the option of going to a public pool, depending on what their area is like. However, not everyone is a fan of these typically overcrowded areas, so renting out someone else’s backyard pool may be the perfect way to have a quiet yet fun getaway. There are some rules involved with this process, but all in all, it seems like everyone involved has viewed this as a great way for homeowners to make some extra money while renters find a new place to enjoy themselves.

For the Beach family, renting out their pool was a simple idea they came up with to help them make payments toward their mortgage. “We are known for our elephant ears,” Jim told CBS46.
He explained that his family’s backyard is a great setting for those wishing to have a celebration with friends or family or those just looking for a nice getaway. “It’s like Airbnb, that is the easiest way to put it,” he added. “Instead of renting out a house, we are renting out our backyard.”
The Beach family, and other families, can do so through an app called Swimply, which allows pool owners to rent out their swimming pools by the hour. There are a few rules involved, including figuring out how many people will be allowed in the swimming pool at once and what the capacity for the overall rental should be.
Still, it appears that the extra cash you can get through this method is helpful. “The first month that it paid for our mortgage, that was pretty nice,” Jim said.
Swimply worker Ha Nguyen said: “A lot of our homeowners on average are making close to $5,000 a month renting out their pools on Swimply. Our top owner out of Florida has already made close to $200,000 and he has only been on Swimply for a year and a half.”
Who would have thought that just renting out a fun amenity in your own backyard could rake in such a grand amount of money? And that’s not all the pool renting system has brought the Beach family. Jim said:
“Not only have we made a little bit of money, which is nice for the mortgage, but we have made some friends.”
