One of life's greatest tragedies is losing a loved one. No matter how old they are, the grief is unmistakable and real.

However, sometimes you might receive a sign that the loved one is still with you in spirit. One of the most universally recognized signs of this liberation is sent through birds.

When Dorothy Booth peacefully passed away at the age of 97, her family mourned her death greatly.

But Dorothy's granddaughter-in-law, Angela Abbott Patteson, had a special story to share about the experience.

Angela relays the story of Dorothy's daughters and their request to their mother to send them a sign from beyond. Jeanne Booth Wright and Debbie Booth Patterson asked their mother in her last days to send them a cardinal from heaven to let them all know that she made it and was happy.

They said, "Hey, when you get to heaven, see if you’re able to send a sign that you’re there and that you’re happy."

Shortly after Dorothy's memorial service, her family had gathered around in the kitchen playing a card game when they noticed a cardinal outside the window. The sweet red bird was calmly sitting outside and did not even move when a family member approached it. The bird even remained calm when the family brought it inside.

Clearly, the family was all moved to tears by this seeming sign from above. After getting over the shock of the situation, they agreed that they needed to release the cardinal back out into the wild.

The family recorded a video of the bird sitting on a branch before peacefully flying back out into the sky.

The family believes that this bird was a sign from God sent to comfort them as they grieved. Its presence surely could not be ignored.
