Adoption is one of the most beautiful gifts a family can give a child. When you open your home and heart to a child in need, you give them love and a safe place to live and grow. While adopting a child is a selfless act, many can wave the idea of adoption in front of a family to harm them. The Yoney family of Spraggs, Pennsylvania know this all too well.

Back in 2016, Tammy Yoney met a young woman named Kiley White. Tammy was heartbroken by Kiley’s story: the 22-year-old said she was dying of cancer and trying to raise her 4-year-old daughter. Tammy and her family felt an instant rapport with Kiley. The Yoney family themselves know how difficult illness can be as their daughter, Morgan, needed a double lung transplant. The Yoneys decided to help Kiley, welcoming her and her daughter into their home. Things got along so well that Kiley soon asked Tammy to adopt her daughter when she eventually succumbed to her illness. Tammy was more than willing to help Kiley, preparing to make all the necessary arrangements for the adoption.

Tammy soon found out that all was not as it seemed with Kiley. The family eventually found out Kiley didn’t have a daughter. When they pressed for more information, Kiley disappeared, even blocking Morgan out of her social media accounts. Tammy went to the police and the media with her story. While she was unhappy that Kiley scammed her out of money when she was living at her home for free, the mom was most upset that Kiley distracted her from taking care of Morgan.

Despite the awful situation, justice was served in the end. Police soon found out that the Yoneys were one of several families that Kiley had scammed with the same story. Law enforcement in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey recently arrested Kiley for theft by deception and harassment. The family in Egg Harbor that Kiley had targeted had been helping the con artist for about five weeks. Morgan and Tammy are happy that Kiley has been caught, saying that it is long overdue. Tammy adds that Kiley has hurt too many people but nevertheless hopes that the con woman can get the psychological treatment she needs behind bars.
