Family Builds Door In Fence So Dog 'Soulmates' Can Be Together Forever

Dogs are truly God’s gift to mankind. Kind and loving animals, they are our constant and loyal companions.

The love a dog feels for its human owners is almost beyond the range of expression, representing something pure and unconditional.

Just as dogs love humans, so too can they love other dogs. Such is the story of Tate and Vernon.

Potate or “Tate” for short, was living the high life. Having been rescued as a stray puppy, Tate was now the proud companion of Hailee Graham and her husband. Loving her new family, Tate would spend hours frolicking and playing in the couple’s backyard.

It was in the Graham's backyard that Tate would find the second love of her life. Tate’s next-door neighbors adopted their own dog, Vernon, soon after the Grahams brought Tate home. Hailee soon realized that Tate and Vernon had a great deal of affection for one another.

At first, the pups began digging under the fence separating the two yards, keen on getting to know each other. Hailee and her neighbor quickly set up play dates so that Tate and Vernon could spend time together, but it eventually became clear that the duo wanted to be together all the time.

Seeing how clearly Tate and Vernon wanted to be together, Hailee and her neighbor decided to build a doggy door in the fence that would connect the two yards. Now, Tate and Vernon can play together anytime.

Graham said, according to the Dodo:

"We couldn’t keep them apart. They would just keep digging holes to each other."

Speaking on the unexpected relationship, Hailee admitted that while logically she can’t be sure if Tate and Vernon are in love, her heart feels that they love one another deeply.

Confessing that the concept of a doggy door connecting two yards might not be the proper solution for every pet owner, Hailee hopes that her idea will inspire others to embrace a greater spirit of community.
