A Labrador isn't known for being a tough dog. They do bark when strangers approach a home, but they don't carry the same aura a German Shepherd, Pitbull, or Doberman has. Whitney Cahoon of Ogden, UT owns a beloved Labrador. She didn't believe her pet could fend off thieves until, well, the day came when the Labrador gave some porch pirates a scare.

The term "porch pirate" is a creative way to call a thief by a different name. Porch pirates steal packages. Amazon, eBay, and various other online retailers ship out merchandise to millions of people on a daily basis. Most people aren't home when packages arrive during work hours. So, packages end up outside a house on a porch or near the front door. Crooks travel up and down streets looking for unguarded packages left out in the open.

Whitney Cahoon didn't think she would suffer from the behaviors of porch pirates. Ogden, UT's streets are busy ones. Who would try to steal anything with so many people walking and driving around? Whitney discovered the answer: thieves who are fast. A speedster thief targeted packages left on her porch.

She spot check on her door's security camera revealed an uninvited visitor quickly tried to steal a package off her porch. Once the package was in hand, he headed in the direction of a getaway car. Things didn't go the way the alleged thief planned. Whitney's Labrador Zero was on duty.

Zero never had a reputation as a fierce dog. Zero was scared of pretty much everything. The family's cats even strike terror into Zero's heart. Rustling sounds from plastic bags even frighten the poor canine. But Zero apparently isn't afraid of porch pirates. Once the dog heard the sounds of someone messing about on the porch, he ran out after the intruder.

The porch pirate wasn't too thrilled to see an angry dog chasing after him. He probably feared Zero would sink his fangs into a leg. To keep the dog from doing any harm, the porch pirate did something out of desperation -- he threw the package back.

The tactic worked. Zero gave up his pursuit. No one was hurt, and nothing was stolen. The video footage of the heroic Zero even found its way to the local news. Zero saved the day and became a media star.
