The spring season brings forth a lot of warm weather and opportunities. The longer days offer people more time to spend outside. The sunshine makes it perfect for outdoor activities. However, there are also some negative aspects that come along with this season as well.

The National Pest Management Association releases its Bug Barometer every two years. This seasonal forecast offers predictions about the activity of certain insects. Spring in the United States is expected to be colder and more rainy than usual. This will result in a large influx of blood-sucking ticks.

Jim Fredericks works as the chief entomologist for the National Pest Management Association. According to Fredericks, the entire country experienced excessive moisture. Whether the climate was warm or cold, nearly the entire contiguous United States was subject to intense moisture.

As this increase in precipitation will not subside when Spring arrives, pest populations can continue to flourish.

This information will be frightening for many people as ticks are known for carrying Lyme disease. Although ticks can spread a host of different diseases, this is the most common and well-known. In fact, 30,000 cases of the disease are reported to the Center for Disease Control every year in the U.S. alone.

In addition, the number of different illnesses being spread by ticks, fleas, and mosquitos has tripled in the U.S. An impressive 60% of these diseases are caused by ticks according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Out of all the different kinds of ticks, people should be the most cautious about deer ticks. This type of tick is known for its proclivity to carry Lime disease. They are hard to spot because of their tiny size.

This spring will bring forth even more moisture in which ticks will continue to thrive. People need to start taking extra precautions against ticks. It is important to control the aspects that we can influence.

It is important to avoid wooded or grassy areas unless completely necessary as ticks enjoy places that are damp. You can start by ensuring there are no humid and moist places in or near your home that ticks would like to use. It's also critical to check your clothing and skin after entering into any place where ticks may be.

If you do see a tick on your skin or clothing, the CDC recommends using a pair of tweezers to remove the tick with a steady and strong upward motion.
