Expecting Parents Sing ‘Push It’ In Delivery Room With Their Family While Waiting To Deliver Baby

Jul 01, 2020 by apost team

Childbirth is a beautiful moment to experience. Mothers labor for hours, sometimes days, then in those final moments, they push and a new human being enters the world. It is an experience like no other for parents and family members.

Jadie Phelps and Jordan Houston of Bedford, TX were patiently awaiting the time to deliver their precious daughter Alaya at the hospital in 2019. That's when the nurse asked if there was a birth song or playlist that the couple wished to use for the delivery. She got more than expected.

Setting the Stage

Aunt Dani scans the room and introduces all of the family members in attendance for the birth of the baby. When she points the camera at mom's belly and comments, "And this is you!" Dad, Jordan, chimes in, "You'll be here soon enough. As soon as your mama pushes you real good." The delivery room erupts in laughter, but what happens next is completely unexpected, unrehearsed, and priceless.

The Intro

"Is that the intro?" asks the nurse and Jordan and his brother start beatboxing and humming the music to Push It by Salt-N-Pepa. Mom, Jadie, and Aunt Dani join in and start rapping the lyrics to the popular late '80s song, which is surprisingly apt for the situation. As the song starts, you can tell everyone in the delivery room is feeling it. The delivery room turns into a dance party. The camera zooms in on Jordan's brother, dancing and humming the music. Then the camera focuses on Grandma whose shoulders are pulsing to the beat as she dances. Dad shows off his own baby-pushing dance moves as laughter ensues. The song finishes with dad rapping "Goo goo, gah gah." and "Waah! Waah!" baby cries. Mom is clearly in tears from laughter at this point.

Unexpected Surprise

Although this unscripted moment was meant to be captured for the newborn and family, it quickly spread across the internet on social media once it was shared with family members on Facebook. Before the family knew it, the clip had been shared worldwide. Jordan told Story Trender that he had no clue that Jadie and Dani knew the lyrics of the song when he started beatboxing the beat. The unplanned moment surprised everyone, but it worked out perfectly. It was a magical moment in its own right. Once they shared the video with their friends and family, it quickly took off with friends of friends sharing it, then complete strangers.

A Fun, Loving Family

Mom Jadie told Story Trender, "We are always making stuff up," so it was a surprise when this one moment was captured and turned into something so fun and amazing. Within five hours, people across the country were dancing to the impromptu jam. If the parents were trying to create a motivating delivery song, this rap seems to have done the trick. Jadie had to push for only ten minutes before Alaya made her way into the world, according to USA Today.

This memorable moment is sure to be talked about for years to come by everyone who was there for the magic. It will definitely be a fun story to share with little Alaya once she is old enough to ask for her birth story. Not only will mom and dad have a fun story about how they rapped their way through delivery, but they can tell little Alaya about the millions of people who were able to view the magical moment online. Congrats to the happy couple on their newborn!
