Most of us smile when we’re with people that we love and, thanks to an adorable shelter puppy, we now realizing that smiling isn’t just reserved for humans!

A little puppy named Matilda was dropped off at the Douglas County Animal Shelter at two months old. Rather than coming from a good situation, Matilda was a stray that suffered from worms and skin problems. But did Matilda’s situation get her down? Absolutely not! The staff recognized that not only was her tail constantly wagging, but she also appeared to “smile”! Obviously this little girl was happy to be with anyone kind – even if it was at an animal shelter.

Shelter volunteer Santina Sanders was anxious to see this sweet baby get a good home, so she began to post photos and videos of her on the social media. The Pibbles and More Animal Rescue group caught site of the video and instantly fell in love with the little girl. This was when their group coordinator, Teresa Bowles-Chiofalo, decided that it was time for this baby Pit Bull to experience a real home thanks to a dog foster family.

When they picked Matilda up to transport her to her new foster home, the little puppy was so excited that it almost seemed that she knew good things were ahead. Matilda’s foster mom, Kerrie Rich, instantly fell in love with the adorable, happy puppy. Kerrie reports that Matilda wags her tail so furiously that it even makes her walk crooked!

However, that tail wagging thing isn’t just a habit – there was one time when Kerrie tried to put a collar on the puppy and, obviously not thrilled with it, Matilda instantly quit wagging her tail. Worried that it was causing her irritated skin to hurt, Kerrie immediately removed the collar. Matilda continues to enjoy her foster home, spending time with their other dogs and even supervising while Kerrie’s son does his homework!

We’re glad to see that this happy little puppy is in a good home where she is loved and cared for, even if it is only temporary. We look forward to seeing her find a forever home where she can spend the rest of her life with a family that loves her!
