Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prefer to keep their children’s lives private, only sharing a few photos while leaving their faces hidden, like in their 2024 Christmas card. Although Archie and Lilibet weren’t given royal titles at birth, they became Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex after King Charles III’s ascension in 2022.
In August 2024, Meghan opened up about them on CBS News Sunday Morning.
“Our kids are young,” she said, adding, “They’re 3 and 5. They’re amazing. But all you want to do as parents is protect them. And so, as we can see what’s happening in the online space, we know that there’s a lot of work to be done there, and we’re just happy to be able to be a part of change for good.”
At the 2022 Invictus Games, Prince Harry shared his hopes for his kids: “To grow up in a better world... To grow up in a fairer world, a safer world, a more equal world. It’s not going to be easy, but I will never, ever, ever rest until I as a parent have at least tried to make the world a better place for them.”
Meghan and Harry welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in London on May 6, 2019. When introducing him to the world, Meghan said: “He has the sweetest temperament… He’s really calm.” Soon after, Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to Santa Barbara, California, where their daughter, Lilibet, was born.
In his “The Me You Can’t See” docuseries, Harry revealed that one of Archie’s first words was “grandma.” He said: “I have no doubt that my mom would be incredibly proud of me. I’m living the life that she wanted to live for herself…” He continued: “I’ve never felt her presence more as I have done over the last year.”

In a November 2021 appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Meghan explained that although only 2 years old at the time, Archie “loves being a big brother.” However, she also revealed there were challenges when Lilibet was born.
“No one talks about the adjustment for the first child when the second one comes along,” she said.
On May 6, 2023, Archie’s 4th birthday coincided with King Charles’ coronation, which Prince Harry attended while Meghan stayed in California to celebrate with Archie. At the 2025 Invictus Games, Harry revealed to PEOPLE that Archie had started asking questions about the veterans. He stated:
“As any parent knows, once you open that door and those questions are asked, or that conversation starts, more and more doors start opening.”
Princess Lilibet “Lili” of Sussex was born on June 4, 2021, and was named after Queen Elizabeth II’s childhood nickname. The couple announced her birth on the Archewell Foundation website.
“On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili,” the announcement read, and continued, “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe…”
Lilibet made her first appearance in the Sussexes’ 2021 holiday card. The couple wrote:
“This year, 2021, we welcomed our daughter, Lilibet, to the world. Archie made us a ‘Mama’ and a ‘Papa’, and Lili made us a family.”
In June 2022, the Sussex family visited England for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, where Lili met her great-grandmother and grandfather Charles. They later released her first portrait from her first birthday at Frogmore Cottage. Lili also appeared in the Netflix show “Harry & Meghan.” She was filmed sitting on Harry’s lap as he read to her. In the documentary, Harry said:
“What’s most important… is to make sure we don’t repeat the same mistakes our parents made.”
On March 3, 2023, Lili was christened in an intimate Montecito ceremony. Her 3rd birthday was celebrated at home with close friends and family. In January 2025, the two children made their first appearance on Meghan’s Instagram account in a video paying tribute to her late dog, Guy.
