Until this day, Princess Diana, also called the People's Princess, is remembered fondly all over the world for her impeccable fashion style, kind-hearted manner, and charity work. Diana's early death in 1997 devasted not only the British royal family but also fans across the globe. In the wake of her passing, memorabilia to her quickly rose to prominence. While there have been lulls of interest, Princess Diana remains a popular person and topic even to this day. Certain events and occasions such as documentaries or Netflix's recent series "The Crown" keep people interested in everything there is to know about Diana and the tragic tale behind her rise as a British princess.

Princess Diana's sons, Prince William and Harry, have worked hard to preserve their mother's legacy both symbolically but also throughout their own charity work as parts of the royal family. Both brothers have taken carried on Princess Diana's legacy in terms of being outspoken about mental health. Back in January of 2017, the two brothers publicly announced their decision to commission a statue in honor of their late mother. Originally, the statue was set to be unveiled later that year but plans changed, and in August of 2020, a new date for the statue's erection was set. The new reveal date has been set to honor what would have been Princess Diana's 60th birthday. The hope is to remind Kensington Palace visitors of Princess Diana's life and legacy with the statue.

Read on to learn more exactly when and where the new statue will be revealed, along with other details related to the statue's unveiling.

Diana, Princess of Wales, was universally loved by not only the British public but by people the world over. She used her influence to enact good, spending much of her time campaigning for humanitarian causes that improved the lives of others. She sat with people who were ill, helping to break the stigma of then-new diseases HIV and AIDS. These are the reasons she became known as the "People's Princess" via the media — she was a shining beacon of light in the royal family.

A statue isn't the only recent public installment made to honor Princess Diana's legacy. Soon, one of the most memorable pieces of Diana's wardrobe will be available to be seen by the public: her intricate and lavish wedding dress. According to Vanity Fair, this iconic dress will be part of an upcoming exhibition titled "Royal Style in the Making" that is set to open doors to visitors this summer on June 3 in the Orangery of Kensington Palace. The decision was made after both Prince William and Prince Harry gave their seal of approval.

There are also already memorials that have been erected as a tribute to Princess Diana, such as Diana Memorial Playground at Kensington Palace, the Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, and the Diana Memorial Walk at St James's Palace. In honor of the 20th anniversary of her death, a memorial garden named the "White Garden" was planted at Kensington Palace.

Now, the brothers have put forth yet another effort to make a public tribute to the memory of their mother, the late Princess Diana.

According to the BBC, the Princes decided to announce plans for a Princess Diana statue in honor of the 20th anniversary of her death and to remind people of the positive impact of their mother's legacy. The initial announcement came in January of 2017, just three days before the 23rd anniversary of Princess Diana's death. The statue was created by artist Ian Rank-Broadley, whose portrait of the queen is on all UK coins.

However, due to delays, in August of 2020, it was announced the statute would be revealed later than expected. According to Cosmopolitan, the statue will finally be revealed on July 1, 2021. The same day would have been Princess Diana's 60th birthday, so the significance of the unveiling was clearly thought out by Prince William and Harry. Despite family tensions between the two brothers since Megxit, they announced the statue erection in a joint statement on Aug. 28, 2020. The statement read:

"A statue of Diana, Princess of Wales, will be erected in the grounds of Kensington Palace at the request of her sons, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry. The Princes have convened a committee to commission and privately raise funds for the creation of the statue. This committee will advise on the selection of the sculptor and will work with Historic Royal Palaces on the statue's installation in the public gardens at Kensington Palace."

The tribute to Diana will be located in one of her favorite places around Kensington Palace, the Sunken Garden. According to Country Living, the garden was designed to feature Diana's favorite colors, white and creams.

According to The Sun, Harry and William have insisted on giving their own speeches at the event, and it is still to be determined whether Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton will also be in attendance.
