With over 80 million pet cats in the United States, it is clear that people don't mind adopting felines as long as they are healthy and fit. However, many of these same individuals would shy away from adopting a cat that is having health problems. One cat named Keta was facing this exact problem.

Keta is a beautiful cat with brown fur. She was found roaming the streets of New York City in October. She was rescued from the harsh weather and treated at a local animal shelter. Unfortunately, Keta has a large tumor on her left cheek.

The staff at the shelter originally thought that Keta should be put down. The vets and rescuers both thought that it would be difficult for an owner to care for this sick cat.

This poor kitten was no older than a year when she was found on the street. Even though her rescuers saved Keta from the cold streets, they were seriously thinking about euthanizing the poor cat. They weren't considering the option of giving Keta a second chance. They believed that her condition would be too much of a financial risk for her owners. Fortunately, there was somebody who did want to help this cat.

Kristin Livan works as the vice president for a non-profit organization by the name of Unwanted NYC Pets. After hearing about Keta's story, Livan decided to give the cat another chance. Keta was taken from the kill shelter and brought to Unwanted NYC Pets. The organization immediately started to raise money for a surgery that could remove the tumor on Keta's face.

After posting Keta's story on social media, the organization began to receive donations from within the local community and the rest of the world. It wasn't long before Unwanted NYC Pets could afford Keta's surgery. This procedure could finally help Keta find a loving home.

Unfortunately, the tumor was too large to operate. A picture provided to the NY Post shows the sheer size of this tumor. It actually protrudes from the bottom of Keta's mouth. The organization realized that operating on this cat could cause significant health complications.

Keta's tumor wasn't only making it hard for her to find a home. Daily activities such as eating and cleaning were also made nearly impossible. The organization didn't give up hope yet.

They sent pieces of her tumor in for testing. The results indicated that the tumor was benign. This meant that the operation could proceed according to plan.

The crowd-funded money was enough to cover the operation and recovery costs. Keta made a quick and complete recovery without any major complications. She regained her ability to see and is now able to eat without any problems.
