Your hair might look perfect every time you leave your house or like you just got out of bed. There are a few different hair care tips to keep in mind no matter what kind of hair you have.

Washing Your Hair

  • When you wash your hair, brush through it before you get it wet.
  • Use warm water that isn't too hot because you can easily dry out your hair by using scalding water.
  • Put a small amount of shampoo in the palms of your hands before massaging it onto the strands of your hair and your scalp.
  • While washing your hair, you should move from your ears to the back of your head so that you don't miss any of the strands.
  • After the shampoo is worked through your hair, rinse with warm water.
  • If your hair is oily, then consider washing it again using the same steps.

Conditioning Your Hair

A conditioner is beneficial for making your hair easier to comb. It also makes your hair soft and manageable.

  • After rinsing your hair with warm water, you want to rinse with cold water to lock in the natural oils.
  • Pat your hair dry instead of rubbing it so that the strands don't break.

The article, Hair Cosmetics: An Overview, published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information reviews the effect of various hair cosmetics, their formulations, and possible side-effects. It was theorized that washing your hair every day will remove some of the natural oils from your hair.

Furthermore, when you wash your hair every day, your hair will begin to produce more oils. It will make your hair appear as though it's greasier than it was before washing. Examining your hair type can also help you to understand how often you should wash it each week and the kind of volume that you might see.

Blow-Drying Your Hair

  • If you use a blow-dryer to dry your hair, apply products to it so that the heat doesn't dry out your hair or cause it to become brittle and break.
  • Divide your hair into sections so that it's easier to dry instead of trying to dry all of your hair at the same time.
  • Keep the dryer about six inches from your head to keep your scalp from being burned.
  • Move the dryer from the roots of your hair to the ends in a flowing manner instead of concentrating the heat on one area.
  • Lift the sections that you made to dry your hair at the roots first before extending to the tips of your hair.
  • Try to use a dryer only once or twice a week to minimize the damage from the heat.

Using A Curling Iron

  • When you're choosing a curling iron, look at the heating temperature and the thickness of your hair.
  • Thicker hair can adjust to a higher temperature setting. You should also look at the shape of the curls that you want to create, such as those that look like a cone and those that are more cylindrical and even.
  • Waves only take a few seconds to create while bouncy curls take about 10 seconds depending on how curly you want your hair.
  • Avoid curling your hair when it's wet. Clean your curling iron after it's used, especially if you use hair products while using the iron.

Using A Straightener

If you want straight hair, then you're going to want to get a straightener. However, there are various kinds to get depending on how you want your hair to look.

A ceramic straightener is ideal for hair that is hard to get through and if you plan on using it on a regular basis.
