Eva Mendes, known for her roles and beauty in movies like "Hitch," "Lost River," and "2 Fast 2 Furious," was born into a Cuban family in Miami, Florida, before moving to Los Angeles, California, after her parents divorced. Growing up as the baby of her family, the actress has said her upbringing was full of family. With no ties to the industry, Eva got her start in the entertainment industry from a talent manager who spotted her in a friend's photography portfolio during college. From there, Eva worked hard to create opportunities for herself and open new doors but often met challenges.
Attending countless auditions for commercials and other acting gigs, Mendes was constantly told she would not be a good fit for the entertainment world with her Cuban ethnicity and look. With strong ambition, Mendes continued to pursue her acting career, which eventually led to the biggest break of her career. In 2001, Eva proved herself right and many casting directors wrong. Mendes was cast in her first major film, "Training Day," where she would go on to play a character named Sara, Denzel Washington's female friend in the action movie.
After "Training Day," Mendes's career took off by landing "2 Fast 2 Furious," before landing an A-list role with celebrity star Will Smith in "Hitch." "Hitch," if you haven't seen it— was a romantic comedy sensation that led Eva to more stardom. Mendes remained working and remained in the press for some time until she and actor Ryan Gosling got together in late 2011.

Making her way back on television screens recently, Mendes told host Kelly Clarkson on the "Kelly Clarkson Show," that she and Gosling are a specific kind of parents, "We are very controlling, very very controlling, we are I think what the term is- we are always laughing at these terms, I think we would be 'bulldozing parents," she joked. While on the show, Mendes also shared her candidness about her role as a parent, "..And nobody told me it was gonna really be a job. And a job that I needed an incredible amount of skill for."
Her full-time job as a mother of two allows the actress to also have a different set of standards when it comes to taking an acting gig. "As a mother now, there are many roles I won't do. There are many subject matters that I don't want to be involved with, so it limits my choices and I'm fine with that. I have to set an example for my girls now," Mendes wrote.
Her hard work has not gone unnoticed either; during the 2017 Golden Globes, Ryan Gosling broadcasted her excellent work to the masses when he said, "While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer." Gosling continued: "So sweetheart, thank you. And to my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you. And I'd like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendez."
