Entitled Mom Demands A Fellow Airplane Passenger Entertain Her 7-Year-Old Son, But She Is Having None Of It

Flying on an airplane isn’t always as smooth of a ride as people would like it to be, especially when some of the passengers are children. Children can be unpredictable, to say the least, and their parents have to be on top of their game to make sure that they are behaving properly. For one mother, she seemed to leave this ideal behind when she boarded a plane with her 7-year-old son back in August of 2020. Throughout the duration of the flight, the pair was less than desirable to be sat next to, according to a story from one Reddit user.

In August 2021, the Reddit user uploaded a post that detailed her experience sitting next to the family duo and the trouble that ensued on their flight to London, England. The young boy was desperate to be entertained, but his mother did not bring anything to keep him occupied on the long flight, leaving the 7-year-old to turn to the Reddit user for some type of entertainment.

The Reddit user deemed it wasn’t her responsibility to keep the kid occupied, but the mother just couldn’t seem to take no as an answer and continued demanding that the Reddit user find some way to occupy the young boy. Problems ensued, resulting in more conflict between the pair of adults throughout the duration of the flight that led to a string of insults being thrown at one another. In August 2021, the Reddit user posted her story about the insufferable mother and the tale of her flight from Budapest to London from the year prior. OP explained that the plane was packed, and she was seated next to an entitled mother and child, who took up the middle seat and window seat. “Before the actual entitlement begins she asked if myself and her kid could swap places as I originally had the window seat,” OP explained but easily switched spots. 

Before the plane even had a chance to leave the ground, the problems between the passengers had already begun, as OP had asked for a nice photo of the take-off to be taken on her phone, to which the entitled mom instead captured a blurry photograph.

Moving on from her annoyance pretty quickly, the Reddit user popped on the 2018 Marvel film “Venom,” and watched it on her phone since she hadn’t yet seen it. OP put on her headphones and began watching the film. After about 20 minutes, the mother and son sitting next to her switched seats, leaving the young boy sitting beside her.

The Reddit user explained that she was “so engrossed in the film” that she didn’t even notice the “entitled child watching too.” Although she had kept her headphones in so the 7-year-old could not hear the film, he could still see the scenes playing out in front of him, including one where Venom bit the head off another character. The boy’s mother also saw the scene and tapped on OP’s shoulder before asking if the movie was appropriate for children. OP explained that she didn’t believe the movie was appropriate for children and didn’t have anything else since the internet was unavailable during the flight.

Her conversation with the young child’s mother ended shortly after, so she went back to watching “Venom” with her headphones on until being interrupted moments later. “Aren’t you going to turn this off?” the mother asked, according to the Reddit post. Unfortunately for the mother, OP was not opposed to confrontation. In fact, she explained that confrontation even made her “giddy,” and she was completely shocked at the entitled woman’s demand to turn off the film.

OP responded, “Uh, no. I’m still gonna watch the movie I picked for my flight.” As if she wasn’t having a hard enough time with the mother, the 7-year-old then piped up and asked if she had any games for him to play. She explained that she didn’t since she was already watching a movie on her phone. The mother was having none of this and said, “Come on, he’s bored.”

This seemed to be the final straw for the Reddit user, as she simply replied, “Not my problem though, is it?” The mother said, “Excuse me?” before OP continued. “It’s not my problem that your child is bored, you should have planned ahead,” she said before putting her headphones back on and resuming “Venom.” A few minutes later, the mother and son switched back to their original spots, meaning the mother was now sitting next to OP.

They continued to make small jabs at one another as they each took turns insulting the other. The mother even tried to irritate OP by fidgeting in her seat, but it just made OP laugh. After the plane finally landed, OP waited until everyone else had gotten off the plane before she finally grabbed her own luggage to live up to her “petty nature,” according to her Reddit post.
