Entitled Local ‘Celebrity’ Tries To Pay Her Restaurant Bill With Exposure, They End Up Calling Police

Living in a bustling city can be extremely exciting, from the night life to the beautiful scenery. Something else that makes the experience especially exciting is the fact that plenty of celebrities also typically live in big cities or at least visit from time to time. It can be thrilling to get the chance to meet someone you really look up to or idolize, whether it be your favorite singer, actor or athlete. However, there are some celebrities that get a bad reputation and are known for being jerks, so not everyone is as excited to meet them.

A Reddit user talked about how she worked at a restaurant that was pretty close to her city’s main concert venue. Every now and then, a celebrity would visit the restaurant, but the server unfortunately was never working whenever it happened. Finally, she had a chance to meet a local celebrity when the influencer visited her restaurant one day. Unfortunately, this “celebrity” wasn’t even really a recognizable celebrity, and she was an even worse customer.

Not only was the celebrity incredibly rude to the waitstaff and ordered very complicated dishes, but she was so entitled that she didn’t believe that she needed to pay her bill. She figured that talking about the restaurant and having her status would suffice. This didn’t sit well with the server, and she made sure to put the local celebrity in her place. She shared her experience on the r/TalesFromYourServer forum on Reddit in July 2021, talking about how she even needed to call the police on the local D-list celebrity.

Starting off her Reddit post, the original poster (OP) talked about how she had never been working at the restaurant when a celebrity visited, until one day. The owner had a strict policy about not handing out free meals to celebrities since they had noticed that D-list celebrities had been trying to take advantage of their small amount of fame and were constantly looking for an ego boost. Fortunately, any time a “real” celebrity did come in, they were great customers and tipped well. “It’s only the D-listers who act all shocked when the check comes,” OP explained.

A local D-list celebrity that went to college with OP decided to visit the restaurant one day, and made a huge ordeal about her small amount of fame from being on “Dr. Phil” and expected to be treated like royalty. OP explained, “She was not a featured guest, she did not even appear in person, she was just teleconferenced in for, like, three total minutes to weigh in on the featured guest’s (a friend of hers from high school I think) relationship.”

However, the woman’s ego had inflated from being on TV and she immediately believed that everyone would recognize her for being a celebrity. OP said that people were “unreasonably excited” about someone from the area being on national television, so they treated her like she actually was a celebrity. “She was a nightmare from the moment she stepped in the door,'' OP said about the time the celebrity visited the restaurant. The D-lister wanted a huge table just for her and had a complicated food order.

“Even her side salad of mixed greens had to be, not kidding, ‘unmixed,’” OP said. Since it was a pretty slow day at the restaurant, the staff accommodated all of the woman’s requests, but she still managed to send back at least one of her plates. When it came time for her to pay the bill, she looked surprised, and simply stood up and just left without paying. OP was shocked and immediately followed the woman down the street. When OP caught up to her, she explained that she still needed to pay the bill, but the local celebrity wasn’t having it.

“She looks at me in total disbelief and says she was going to Instagram her meal with us and that’s typically enough when she goes out,” OP said. OP knew the woman wasn’t even a big celebrity, and to hurt her ego a bit, asked, “Sorry… who are you?” The two got in an argument with OP threatening to call the police on the woman if she didn’t pay the bill. The D-lister walked away assuming that OP really didn’t know who she was, but OP walked right back to the restaurant and called the police.

OP explained that the celebrity had been posting geotagged posts online all day “so she incriminated herself and led the police right to her.” They also found out that she had refused to pay the bill at plenty of other restaurants, too, and instead left them terrible reviews. All in all, the woman finally got what she deserved. OP concluded, “So, I wish I’d been at work the time John Goodman was here instead, but this was better than nothing.”
