Employee Takes One Look At Teen Girl And Refuses To Let Her Join Her Friends On The Ferris Wheel

Disability is not inability, and one should never judge a book by its cover.

Unfortunately, the attendants of a certain sports store in Kansas do not seem to be aware of these particular sayings. They shamelessly stopped an 18-year-old disabled girl from riding the Ferris wheel with her friends.

Kathryn Embry has Down Syndrome and most of the people she meets in her daily life will probably pick up on that immediately.

“But it says nothing about what her capabilities are. She can read the rules. She can follow the rules," Kathry's mum told WDAF-TV.

Kathryn's disability doesn't stop her from being responsible and making decisions. She manages her school's soccer team, for one thing.

"She keeps the team in line," her friend Emily Kramer said during the same broadcast.

Which is why it seems quite bizarre that a store attendant actually stopped Kathryn from going on the Ferris wheel ride with her friends, apparently assuming that she couldn't take care of herself and follow the rules.

In Kathryn's school, the students with special abilities are not separated from the other classmates. Half of the kids in Kathryn's class have special needs, and the rest are peer students who work with their classmates and help mentor them.

What upset Kathryn and her friends the most is that the Ferris ride attendant never even tried to speak to Kathryn. It just seemed to be an entirely heartless act.

The good thing about Kathryn's friends is that they don't tolerate such behavior. They defend their friend and are now fighting back.

Have you ever witnessed someone being discriminated against because of their condition? What would you have done if you were with Kathryn? Please tell us in the comments and make sure your friends and family know about this incident. We hope you agree with us that nobody should be discriminated against.
