Many people are lucky enough to get amazing qualities from their family members. Maybe it’s receiving great genetics and having great health throughout your life or taking on similar physical characteristics. In Hollywood, it seems like talent runs in several families, including the Roberts family.

Some of the more well-known members of this family include actor Eric Roberts, his sister and actress Julia Roberts, and Eric’s daughter Emma Roberts. This means that Emma, who is also an actress, is Julia’s niece.

Julia has been one of the top leading ladies in Hollywood for over three decades since she first starred in the 1990 film “Pretty Woman.” Before, Julia received recognition thanks to her roles in “Mystic Pizza” and “Steel Magnolias,” but her filmography from the 1990s put her on the map. Her decades-spanning career has brought her numerous accolades, grossing over $3.8 billion globally at the box office. However, she has done her best to live a private life, marrying cinematographer Daniel Moder in 2002 and having three children together.

As for Emma, she found fame at a young age thanks to her turn in the TV series “Unfabulous” before going on to take on more adult roles in shows like “Scream Queens” and “American Horror Story.” She has also found fame in films such as “Nancy Drew,” “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” “We’re the Millers” and “Valentine’s Day,” the latter of which also starred Julia.

While both women have made names for themselves in the industry, they have also shown how strong they are together professionally and personally as family members. Read on to find out more about Julia and Emma’s careers and aunt-niece relationship.

As a leading lady in Hollywood, Julia is no stranger to the entertainment industry and the limelight. She found critical success just a few years after graduating from high school with her role in “Steel Magnolias” in 1989 before finding worldwide success a year later with “Pretty Woman.”

Speaking with Variety, Julia explained how the script for “Pretty Woman” changed quite a bit, and for a while, it seemed like the movie would never even be made. Fortunately, director Garry Marshall came on and “changed the whole thing,” as Julia explained, making it something more in her “wheelhouse.”

Since then, Julia has gone on to become one of Hollywood’s most bankable actresses, starring in films such as “Notting Hill,” “Erin Brockovich” and “Eat Pray Love.” She has also started a beautiful family and is continuing to find work today in both film and television.

Speaking with Oprah Winfrey in 2003, Julia talked about her love for acting. “But my greatest sense comes from the experience of performing in the movie,” she explained. “When I have a great experience, that becomes a perfect movie.”

Her niece, Emma, is also a famous actress. She found fame during her teenage years thanks to the Nickelodeon show “Unfabulous,” in which she sang and acted. Afterward, she starred in several movies like “Nancy Drew” and “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” before finding more mature roles. She is now arguably most famous for her ever-changing roles in the anthology horror series “American Horror Story.” According to Pop Culturalist, she is also a producer.

Even though Julia is a successful actress, she doesn’t believe in advising striving stars. “My first response is don’t take advice from actors,” she said. “Because everybody’s experience is unique – should be unique.” Still, it’s hard to believe that Emma didn’t learn a thing or two from her famous aunt.

According to PEOPLE, Emma witnessed Julia in action while sitting on movie sets such as “Erin Brockovich” and “America’s Sweethearts.” She explained, “I would ask questions without a filter. This industry really is ‘learn as you go.’” However, Emma had her own career plans. “I never aspired to be her,” she said, referring to her aunt. “I love her so much, I love her work, but I’m just doing my own thing.” Fortunately, the two women shared the screen together in the 2010 film “Valentine’s Day.”

Family life is incredibly important to both Julia and Emma. Speaking with the New York Times in April 2022, Julia said, “I have a sense of great pride in being home with my family and considering myself a homemaker. Julia is a mom of three, while Emma is a mom of one son, whom she shares with her ex-partner Garrett Hedlund. According to CNN, Emma became the first pregnant woman to appear on the cover of Cosmopolitan, making history back in November 2020.

Eric has taken some credit for his sister’s and daughter’s success. According to Us Weekly, he said, “If it wasn’t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts and no Emma Roberts as celebrities, as actresses, and I’m very proud of that.”

Of course, Julia and Emma have a beautiful bond, as seen through a heartwarming Instagram post from Julia for her niece’s birthday in February 2022. Julia wrote, “Happy Birthday Magical One! Oh how I love you.”
