Eminem's Child Comes Out As Non-Binary At 19 Years Old

As many celebrities from the '80s and '90s are getting older, many fans are getting more and more interested in the children of famous singers and actors. Being the child of a celebrity poses some interesting challenges. When you have a famous parent, you have multiple paths in life to choose from. You can take the path of anonymity and try to blend into the background as much as possible. Or, you can take advantage of your family's notoriety and use it to your advantage.
In either case, being the child of a celebrity is not an easy process. Many feel that they always live in the shadows of their parents, with unrealistic but constant expectations put upon them. After all, they didn't choose that life.

While Eminem's most famous child is Hailie Mathers, he does have other children whom he adopted after he reconciled with his ex-wife Kim before their second divorce. Although both children are not biologically Eminem's, they are his legal children. Eminem adopted a child of Kim's in 2005, his Alaina. The 19-year-old other child, who goes by the name of Stevie, was also adopted by Eminem back in 2005. The child of the famous worldwide rapper came out as bisexual back in 2017.  The 19-year old child, who now goes by the name Stevie Laine, has recently announced to the world that they are non-binary. Like many other Gen-Zers, Stevie has a rather prominent presence on social media, including TikTok and Instagram.

Read on to learn more about Stevie, the announcement of their gender and pronouns, and how the rest of Eminem's family is responding to the news.

Eminem had his most famous daughter Hailie with Kimberly Anne Scott, better known as Kim. According to Ranker, the pair met as teenagers. Eminem's mother, Debbie Nelson, recalled in her memoir — My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem: Setting the Record Straight on My Life as Eminem's Mother — the day that Eminem brought Kim home. She wrote:

"Marshall arrived home from school with a tall, sulky blonde girl. He introduced her as Kim Scott and said she needed a place to stay. I was happy to help out...I looked on Kim as a challenge, someone I hoped I could give a better life to."

Kim was pregnant not long after moving in with Eminem and his mother. Hailie Jade Mathers was born on December 25th, 1995; Hailie Mathers is Eminem's only biological daughter. Given that Eminem was born on October 17th, 1972, and Kim was born on January 9th, 1975 — the two were a young set of parents at 23 and 20. The young couple got married when Hailie was just four years old in 1999, and the tying of the knot was timely, as it happened just before Eminem would go on his first major tour. Unfortunately, the marriage wasn't to last.

The star couple, often called "Kiminem," divorced in 2001, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Similar to him reaching a career milestone after his marriage, the divorce was also punctuated with a rise in Eminem's recognition. During the same year Kim and Eminem got divorced, Eminem won a Grammy for the category of 'Best Rap Album.' The couple then got remarried five years later, in January of 2006. They eventually re-filed for a final divorce only a few months later, in April of 2006.

Despite a history of not being the most civil towards each other — including Eminem writing a rather lewd song titled Kim and even filing a motion against Kim speaking badly about him in public — it was reported the divorce wasn't filled with the previous drama. The judge who conducted the divorce, Judge Antonio P. Viviano, said of the couple:

" [They] conducted themselves with dignity and respect. All in all, they are a very fine couple to deal with."

According to Metro, the family continued on in a rather friendly manner in Detroit, Michigan, even though it was a split one.

In spite of all of the rather publicized family drama, Eminem's children have all grown up to lead their own lives. Hailie, for example, is quite popular on Instagram, and she isn't the only one in Eminem's family with a social media presence. Eminem's 19-year-old child Stevie Laine has recently used social media to come out as non-binary. According to The Sun, the teenager took to TikTok to make the announcement, as they said:

"'call me Stevie (they/she/he)"

In the video, Stevie posted photos of their transformation to adopting a gender identity that indicates their lack of identification with being male or female. The video also featured optimistic text and a caption that really expressed Stevie's content with their identity:

"Watch me become more comfortable with myself"

The caption read:

" forever growing and changing <3 #greenscreen #genderfluid #bi #life"

Not only did Stevie change their pronouns, but the teen also cut their blonde hair and got nose piercings. Stevie Laine seems to be embracing their true self, and we're happy to see them publicly celebrating their identity.
