"The way to someone's heart is through their stomach," is an old saying. People like celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse have gotten the world to fall for him through his impeccable cooking skills. Lagasse was born in October 1959. He was born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts, to his two parents.

Lagasse started to take up culinary interests as young as ten years old. The chef has memories back from ages six and seven but has said that he began taking cooking seriously around age 12. When he was young, he worked at a bakery, where he discovered his passion for culinary arts. Before long, the young chef enrolled himself in culinary education. He signed up at the Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School. Showing interest in other things than just cooking, Lagasse ended up landing a scholarship as a percussionist at the New England Conservatory of Music. However, he decided to pursue becoming a chef at Johnson Wales University.

After graduating from Johnson Wales University in 1978, he soon became an executive chef at Dunfey's Hyannis Resort in 1979. However, the young chef's success only grew from there. Soon enough, Lagasse would be making a name for himself worldwide. From starting cooking in his childhood home to being one of the most renowned chefs internationally known— Lagasse has come a long way. The celebrity chef changed the course of cooking and how the world looks at the complicated art of cooking. He helped launch The Food Network in the 90s, and many years later, he still profoundly impacts the cooking industry.

In 2016 Lagasse shared with GQ that when he started out with The Food Network during his early career, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. "I was one of the first ten employees hired at the Food Network, so we kind of started the network. And it didn't start out very well—I had a couple of flop shows," the chef admitted

"And the president at the time suggested I come to New York and we spend a couple of days together. And basically that was when "The Essence of Emeril" was created," he said

Lagasse went on to say that after working hard, the show started to take off. "That started the birth of "Emeril Live," and obviously the show evolved, the ratings got better, we did a lot of things to add viewership to the network, so that made everybody happy," he said. "It was a great 10-year run. The ticket was one of the hottest tickets in New York. We had all these great musicians who were into food and wanted to tape the show," the star revealed

Lagasse has been successful for many decades, from starting on-air in the 1990s to running his own shows in the 2020s. Aside from being a cooking personality, Lagasse said his real passion of his is mixing people and cooking.

"What really makes my clock go is still the restaurants. I love people, I love being with my staff, I love learning together, I love making people happy with food, with wine, with service," Lagasse shared

Chef Lagasse has been so successful over his lifetime in the culinary world that his alma mater awarded him the gift of a lifetime. After attending the college in the 1970s, years later, Johnson Wales University awarded the former student another degree.

He was also awarded the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Program on top of many other awards over his long career. Being over 60 years old, the famous chef's younger son is now following in his footsteps. Cooking with his father in the kitchen from a young age, Lagasse wasn't surprised when his son pursued cooking. His son, E.J., is becoming a master of culinary arts, just like his famous and popular father. E.J. even attended Johnson Wales University's culinary program, too, just like his father.

For one of his son's past birthdays, the chef posted some kind words on their relationship. "This young man chose his craft and has created a path of his own," the proud dad wrote. "Along the way, he has made us incredibly proud and I couldn't be happier to work beside him," Lagasse said about his son.

People talked to the famous father and son duo in 2020, where E.J. opened up about his future in cooking.

"I've been on his shows and stuff a few times. It doesn't bother me," he said. "But I definitely want to be a chef that's known for my cuisine and not necessarily just because you see me on TV every week," the chef in the making shared

Do you think E.J. Lagasse will pursue being a celebrity chef just like his dad? We are so happy to see Emeril still busy working! If this article made you hungry— make sure to send it to other fans too!
