Many people have a storied background when they appear as contestants on America's Got Talent, but Archie William's life is more incredible than all of them combined. Williams was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit and bravely took to the AGT stage when he was released. He chose the hit Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, and his performance was highly praised by the song's writer, Sir Elton John.

Despite having overcome many hardships in his life, Williams is quickly becoming a fan favorite because of his wonderful singing talent. CNN reports that Williams was wrongfully convicted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that sentenced him to life without parole. He was accused of committing a violent crime despite him being home asleep at the time. In March 2019, fingerprint evidence came to light that recused him and he was freed the same month. A year later, he stepped on the AGT stage and made a dream come true.

He revealed to the audience on the show right before his audition that he was a fan before being there that day.

"I watched 'America's Got Talent' in prison and I would visualize myself there," he said. "I always desired to be on a stage like this, and now I'm here."

When he stepped on stage in a light gray suit and began singing, the whole audience was rapt. The emotional performance topped with his soulful voice just made fans out of everybody that saw it. Including the musician who penned the song himself.

Sir Elton John, who wrote Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, sent out a heartfelt tweet after experiencing Archie's voice. He wrote that he was moved to tears and compared his spirit to that of Nelson Mandela.

It is high praise coming from a man who has been in the music industry for decades. Archie's show-stopping performance also moved the judges in the room at the time, even usually hard-hearted Simon Cowell who said:

"I will never, ever listen to that song the same way after you sang that," at the performance. "This is an audition I will never forget for the whole of my life, Archie."

Isn't Elton John's response to Williams' performance touching? After you have watched Archie Williams' heartfelt AGT audition, please make sure to spread his story to others who must hear it.
