Fans were caught by surprise with the walking pneumonia announcement. According to Sir Elton John himself, he was diagnosed with the illness not long before his concert.

"I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible. I played and sang my heart out until my voice could sing no more."

Walking Pneumonia

Many people may wonder why exactly walking pneumonia compromised Elton John's ability to sing.

While the CDC describes walking pneumonia as having milder symptoms than regular pneumonia, the illness is a type of bacteria that causes respiratory infections.

According to USA TODAY, Elton John had previously postponed a concert in Indiana back in October also due to his illness.

Elton John expressed that he was "disappointed, deeply upset and sorry" on Twitter despite singing until he could not anymore. The Indianapolis concert was a part of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, and although it was cut short, fans still supported John.

Past Health Problems

After having to postpone the Indiana concert back in October, the event was rescheduled for March 26th, 2020. Despite still guaranteeing a future concert, the 72-year-old took to Instagram to apologize for the inconvenience to the fans. He said he "absolutely" hated to let his fans down.

"I promise I will deliver the show you deserve," he added.
