Ellie Goulding Shares Baby's Name In Formal Newspaper Announcement After Giving Birth

English pop star Ellie Goulding and husband Caspar Jopling welcomed their first child together on Thursday, April 29, nearly two years after the couple’s York Minster marriage in 2019. The news might come as a surprise for some fans, as Goulding and her husband were rather private when it came to the pregnancy, breaking news of the baby during Goulding’s third trimester.

And since the couple announced the birth on Jopling’s Instagram, further details about the newborn have been relatively sparse — until Thursday, May 7. On that day, Jopling yet again took to Instagram to share more news about their baby: their son’s name.

However, the announcement was not a typical name reveal. Rather than simply posting the newborn’s name alongside a photograph, Jopling took a photo of The Times’ announcement section, where you can see that the couple took out a formal announcement to officially share their son’s name, Arthur Ever Winter Jopling.

Goulding, a prominent British recording artist known for her 2011 hit “Lights,” got engaged to Jopling, an art dealer, in 2018. The two met after Princess Eugenie introduced Goulding, her friend, to Caspar at a dinner in New York. Two years later, the couple was married, and almost exactly a year after that, the duo said that they were expecting their first child.

As if Goulding wasn’t busy enough, 2021 also marks the year that she debuts her book, “Fitter. Stronger. Calmer.” The book, which draws on the singer’s own experiences, is a sort of hybrid between a fitness guide and a healthful living cookbook. But until then, we’re sure her hands will be full taking care of Arthur.

Jopling, who announced Arthur’s name, posted a photo of The Times announcement alongside a rather philosophical caption.

“It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools .. not sure what that means exactly [[ ps hi A.E.W.J. ]],” the art dealer wrote to his more than 40,000 followers on Instagram.

Back in February 2021, Goulding opened up about her pregnancy in a revealing interview with Vogue. As she recounts in the interview, Arthur’s birth was completely unplanned.

“I was pregnant and had no idea,” she told Vogue. “That was (around) the time when (Caspar and I) went away briefly when we were allowed to for our one-year anniversary, and that’s basically when we found out. It was crazy because it was our one-year anniversary. That was not the plan. The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality. Becoming pregnant kind of made me feel human. I want a better word than womanly, (but) — I have curves I’ve never had before. I’m enjoying it. My husband’s enjoying it.”

With that said, Goulding admitted that it was hard to eat healthfully while she was pregnant, which is surprising given that the 34-year-old singer is especially keen on staying fit. She even came out with a book, “Fitter. Calmer. Stronger.”, that focuses on wellness and healthy living.

“I actually went from being smug about how healthy my salads were and my breakfasts and eating nuts and seeds, and then all I wanted was McDonald’s,” she told Vogue. “And I was kind of terrified, I suddenly wanted all of the bad things!

“Whatever this baby did when it took over my body was like, Hell no — I do not want broccoli, spinach, collards! I just wanted sugar and carbs.”

Now that Arthur is out into the world, Goulding can begin to focus on healthy living again — not to mention her career, which she says plays an incredibly important role in her life. In an interview with The Telegraph, Goulding even went so far as to say that first and foremost she thinks of herself as a touring musician. That’s partly why she kept her pregnancy a secret from the world until her third trimester.

“I needed that space to process what was happening,’ Goulding said of her decision to keep her pregnancy private. “I’ve always defined myself as a touring musician. That’s who I am and what I do. Being a mother wasn’t in my mind frame, I’ve never felt any woman had to be defined by motherhood.”

While Goulding’s pregnancy seems to have caught the musician by surprise, it seems clear that she will have plenty of support at home from Jopling.

“Women make it work, I’m sure I can make it work. The team around me is all female which massively helps. Caspar is going to be freelancing from home for the first few months so it will be just us and the baby and we’ll just take everything as it comes,” Goulding told The Telegraph.

Goulding will be busy as September comes around, as that is when her book — part workout guide and part cookbook — will hit shelves.
