Ellen Pompeo Admits She Doesn't Have The Stamina To Watch 'Grey's Anatomy' With Her Daughter In 6th Grade

Ellen Pompeo, the beloved actress known for her role as Dr. Meredith Grey in the hit TV show "Grey's Anatomy," revealed that she doesn't have the stamina to watch the entirety of her popular series with her daughter, Stella.

In an interview with her former co-star Katherine Heigl for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, uploaded on June 7, 2023, Pompeo discussed their children's exposure to the long-running medical drama.

The celebrity mom-of-three shared that Stella's classmates have devoured the show, which surprised her due to the mature content present in the early seasons. But it did leave her child feeling left out because she has yet to watch the series. Seizing the opportunity to bond with her daughter, Pompeo agreed to watch "Grey's Anatomy" with Stella during the summer.

Born in 2009, Stella was interested in her mother's TV work at an early age because she wants to become an emergency room doctor when she grows up. In a 2015 interview, Pompeo revealed that Stella loved hanging around the set of "Grey's Anatomy" and often stayed at the office of the show's medical producer, Linda Klein.

Klein would let Stella use some props and do medical procedures using fake bones. The child was supervised, but she was doing "advanced procedures" and pretending she was a doctor.

Stella is Pompeo's eldest child with husband Chris Ivery. The actress has another daughter, Sienna, born in 2014, and a son, Eli, born in 2016. Pompeo and Ivery have been married since 2007. The couple does not often share updates about their three kids on social media, but their son is a more frequent presence on Pompeo's Instagram.

Pompeo told Heigl that when she tried watching "Grey's Anatomy" with her eldest, she realized that she couldn't stomach it. Filming all the episodes and being a part of the show for so long made it challenging for her to rewatch it.

"I don't have the stamina for this! I filmed all these episodes," the actress confessed." I can't now go back and watch it again."

In contrast, Heigl, who portrayed Dr. Izzie Stevens in the series until the fifth season, admitted that she used to watch every episode as it aired and was eager to see how the storylines unfolded. Reflecting on her departure from the show in 2010, Heigl expressed that she was naive in handling her intense emotions on set and didn't anticipate such a strong reaction.

On the other hand, Pompeo expressed gratitude for being part of a series that has stood the test of time. She is one of the few remaining original actors on the show after 19 seasons. Although she didn't watch many episodes during the show's run, watching it with Stella allowed her to experience some of them for the first time.

In recent years, Pompeo has been focusing on her family life and spending more time with her children. She values the importance of exposing her daughters to positive role models, particularly strong Black women. Pompeo has emphasized the significance of representation and ensures that her daughters see images of beautiful and powerful Black women in the media.

While Pompeo's personal stamina may not allow her to watch “Grey's Anatomy” with her daughter, her legacy on the show and her commitment to her family continue to shape her life.
