Ellen DeGeneres Gives Her Mom's Hair A New Cut For Her 90th Birthday

With hair salons and barber shops closed during the coronavirus pandemic, folks are turning to their families to give them haircuts — or even doing it themselves. Ellen DeGeneres' mom, Betty, turned 90 last week, and as a special gift, Ellen decided to give her a new haircut, which she filmed and posted to social media.

According to Daily Mail, Ellen and her mom have always been close, despite some ups and downs, but the quarantine has made them even closer. On Wednesday Ellen took to Twitter to reveal she had given 90-year-old Betty a birthday haircut.

She posted the video for everyone to see. The set-up was similar to that of a hair salon. Betty was sat in a chair, with a towel around her shoulders as sunlight streamed in through the windows.

Ellen was clearly taking her job very seriously. You could see the concentration on her face as she began by cutting the back of her mom's hair using hair clippers. In the video the 62-year-old talk show host states, "It's not that short, Mother. It's just taking the edges off, I promise you."

Her mom doesn't seem too used to this method of having her hair cut, replying, "You don't use scissors?" Ellen jokes back, "Believe me, you don't want me using scissors." It's great to see the warm affection between mother and daughter.

Halfway through Betty questions, "Why am I letting her do this? Because it's my birthday. Happy birthday to me." A voice can be heard in the background saying "You only turn 90 once." And what better way to celebrate than with a new hairstyle!

When Betty stands by the mirror to admire her new look, Ellen asks her if she likes it. Betty gives a very honest response, "No, not yet, but when I wash it...Oh, you really cut it short!" Whether she likes it or not, one thing is for sure–she'll never forget her 90th birthday present from her daughter.
